Where can you collect in Spain?

Malaga, Mallorca, Tenerife and Gran Canaria all have pickups without a credit rule. The pickup type matters as much as the place.

Preparing your collection payment

Online advance

You pay 15 to 20% online to book, and the company gets the rest at pickup. Airport charges are in the quoted total, not in the advance.

Remaining balance

Balance methods vary across Spain: some cars take cash or card, others card only, including some in Gran Canaria. Check this apart from the deposit.

Debit conditions

Debit must be allowed in the booking and on the voucher. The company then wants the main driver’s embossed physical debit card on an accepted network.

Complete quotation

Compare the whole trip price with pickup and extras added. Flexible payment does not mean cheapest, and a low daily rate may hold more.

Security amounts and accepted methods

Cash security

Some Tenerife, Palma and Malaga cars take a cash deposit; Gran Canaria needs another method. Amounts vary, and so does repayment timing.

Debit security

Some Gran Canaria cars take a debit deposit but not cash, so skipping credit does not end every card rule. The voucher shows the method.

Insurance for Spanish car hire

Paying without credit does not set your cover. Check the levels, accident share and deposit on the car you want.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)
  • In Spain, Basic CDW caps your part of insured collision losses. Windscreen, wheels, interior and undercarriage are excluded; check an upgrade before relying on it.
  • Full Coverage’s Super CDW keeps a driver share, which may fall or stay at Basic, as on some Palma cars. A deposit can equal the excess but works differently.
  • Some Malaga, Palma and Gran Canaria Airport cars sell Full Coverage Plus, priced per rental; Tenerife does not. It ends your accidental-damage share, even on some zero-deposit Malaga cars.
  • Deliberate vandalism and neglect void the insurance. Use paved public roads only; an upgrade does not lift road rules or the duty to report incidents.
Reporting an incident

Report an insured incident to the company immediately and get documents from the police, unless the company allows otherwise. Ignore this and the protection ends; all damage is yours.

Which options retain a credit requirement?

Airport alternatives

Some airport cars at Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Palma need credit, even with no deposit. The main driver brings the embossed card in person.

Mallorca delivery

Palma address delivery needs credit, as do Alcudia and some Calvia cars, unlike some offices. Without credit, pick an office or airport car instead.

Finding an eligible vehicle

  1. Choose collection

Enter your pickup and return points and handover times. Add age and licence experience so results follow each car’s driver rules.

  2. Select the filter

Turn on No credit card in the payment options and open a result. Read the car details and extras, then enter renter details.

  3. Save the confirmation

Your confirmation email lists the rental company’s contacts. Ask them about the car’s condition or the service you booked.

Payment choice versus reserved funds

No credit card

This is about the card needed to collect in Spain, not the deposit. Choose it when credit is the issue, then check other money rules.

No deposit

This is about money held during your trip, not how you pay or damage costs. Choose it when avoiding a deposit matters most.

Questions before collecting in Spain

Which licence do I need to rent a car in Spain with a debit card?

An original national licence with Latin-script details, valid until handback; copies and electronic documents are turned away. For a domestic-only licence, Spain’s terms strongly recommend an IDP as well.

Can I pick up a car at night in Spain without a credit card?

On some cars. Others cannot be collected or returned at night, and some add a charge for it. Enter both handover hours in the search to see which cars suit your flight.

How much notice do I need to cancel a car rental in Spain?

Standard cars need 7 days, luxury cars and convertibles 30, and 24 hours with the cancellation option. A late change, late cancellation or unarranged no-show leaves the advance with the company. Refunds take up to 14 days, less a 6% fee.

Do cars without a credit card have unlimited mileage in Spain?

Not always. Cars without a credit rule come with unlimited mileage or a daily allowance. Choose by your route; payment does not set the kilometres.

Can I hire a car in Ibiza without a credit card?

Rarely. Few cars for car hire in Ibiza allow it, and each Ibiza car holds a deposit at pickup. Turn on the No credit card filter to see which other places work.
