One-way car hire across Morocco

Pick up in Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca and return the car in another of the three if you like. It must stay in Morocco.

One-way routes and charges between Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca

Fly in to one city, fly out of another. Our 23 October 2026 search covered rentals of 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after; the charges come from cars whose usual pickup place is the airport.

  • Name Agadir, Casablanca or Marrakech as the return point when searching. Each car’s total already includes what its company charges to deliver the car and collect it again.
  • The spread between companies is wide: on each route between the three cities, only 5 airport cars charged nothing extra, and the steepest charge reached €650. That sum is the car’s own delivery charge at one end or both, not a set drop-off fee.
  • Every return point is inside Morocco.

Car hire around Morocco: the three airport cities

What changes at the wheel from one base to the next. Drive times come from our routing with no traffic, rounded up; ADM and ONDA as noted.

The Hassan II Mosque and its tall minaret on the shore at Casablanca, with ocean waves and a vivid blue sky

Casablanca

The airport has its own interchange on the A3, and ADM’s class 1 figure for the tolled Casablanca to airport section was 7 on 23 October 2026. ONDA’s site still showed, in January 2025, “between 30 and 50 minutes” to the city depending on traffic. Rabat and El Jadida: about 1 h 30 min to either, from CMN.

Crowds in Jemaa el-Fnaa square at dusk in front of lit cafe terraces, under a deep blue evening sky

Marrakech

From the airport, Jemaa el-Fna is about 15 min away, and the High Atlas valleys are within a day trip: Imlil and Setti Fatma (Ourika valley) are both about 1 h 30 min away, RN7 first and provincial roads after. Agadir: about 3 h 15 min south, over the Atlas by motorway. Essaouira: about 2 h 45 min west.

A wooden lifeguard tower on an empty sandy beach at Agadir, with waves and a dramatic cloudy sky

Agadir

Agadir town is about 25 min from the airport and Taghazout about 55 min. Inland and south, Taroudant (about 1 h) and Tiznit (about 1 h 30 min) are on national and regional roads, not motorway. The A3 ends here, so Marrakech airport is about 3 h away, mostly on the motorway.

Picking up a car at Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca airport

Cars at each airport for rentals of 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after, counted 23 October 2026; night prices checked 23 October 2026.

Marrakech airport (RAK)

The Marrakech search held 398 cars; 68 are normally collected at the airport, and 41 of those 68 add no delivery charge.

Agadir airport (AGA)

The Agadir search held 295 cars; 43 are normally collected at the airport, and 15 of those 43 add no delivery charge.

Casablanca airport (CMN)

The Casablanca search held 459 cars; 112 are normally collected at the airport, and 61 of those 112 add no delivery charge.

Landing at night

When we priced a 03:00 pickup and a 03:00 return, 9 of 10 quoted cars at Marrakech, 9 of 10 at Agadir and 3 of 6 at Casablanca charged extra at both ends, and all of them stayed bookable. Enter your real arrival time and the surcharge shows up in the total.

  • Cars not based at the airport come to a city address or another meeting point, sometimes from another of the three cities, since 268 of Agadir’s 295 cars also turned up in the Marrakech search. The search lists each car’s handover options, and its total carries any delivery charge.
  • Meeting points differ between companies. The voucher names yours and gives the company’s number, and clause 10 of the Morocco terms wants your phone on and answering from the day before pickup.

Three steps to a Moroccan hire car

  1. Pick the city, then compare totals

Search Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca, at the airport or a town address, and add a different return city if needed. Delivery from another town is folded into the price, so compare totals, deposits and card rules side by side.

  2. Secure it with a part payment

Part of the total goes online to hold the car. The voucher that follows by email names the Moroccan company, its phone and the meeting point, which at Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca airports varies from one company to the next.

  3. Show papers, pay the balance

At the meeting point, show your licence, passport and voucher, then pay the balance by card or in cash; cash was accepted by 3 of 6 Moroccan cars in our 23 October 2026 pricing check.

Card, deposit or cash: what Moroccan companies asked

Our 23 October 2026 search for rentals of 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after. The Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca lists share cars (268 of Agadir’s 295 turned up in Marrakech too), so read each row on its own and never add rows together.

  • Zero deposit is not the same as card-free: some of those cars take the balance by card alone.
  • No deposit was common in our Moroccan searches compared with our other destinations: the Casablanca search showed 327 of 459 cars at zero (71%), ranking 4th of 19 destinations SabreCar lined up side by side, whose median sat at 37% (other destinations checked 22 and 23 October 2026, Morocco on 23 October; window 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after). Treat the ranking as rough: each destination is one search for the same week, some city-wide and some airport-only, so the lists are not like for like.
  • Online you pay the advance, 15 to 20% of the total. Everything else goes to the company at pickup: of the 6 Marrakech and Agadir cars we priced to the final total on 23 October 2026, 3 wanted a card only and 3 took cash or card.
  • Delivery and out-of-hours charges sit inside the shown price. That is why no daily rate appears here: run the search for your dates to see the true total.

Documents you need to hire a car in Morocco

Your home licence, the original.

Your details must be in Latin letters, and the licence still valid when the rental ends. Moroccan companies turn down photocopies and electronic licences.

International Driving Permit.

Morocco’s rental terms press for one wherever a licence is valid solely in its issuing country. For UK drivers, the government’s advice (read 23 October 2026) is the 1968 permit, sold only in the UK, carried with the licence; Morocco no longer takes the 1949 one.

Passport and voucher.

The booking partner asks for both, with the licence, when you sign the contract.

Age limits and licence years.

Set car by car. Among 6 Marrakech and Agadir cars we priced to the final total on 23 October 2026: minimum age 21 to 26, maximum 65 to 80, and a licence held 2 years or longer on every one.

A card, when the car wants one.

Moroccan companies want a credit card in physical, embossed form with the main driver named on it; where a car allows debit, that card follows the same rule.

A phone you will answer.

Morocco’s clause 10: the Moroccan company may ring or message the booking number (written with its +code) from the day ahead of collection through to drop-off, by voice, Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram, so keep that phone live.

Dirhams: cash, exchange and the Customs limit

Sources: Moroccan Customs, plus the British government’s Morocco travel page, both checked 23 October 2026.

  • The currency is the dirham, which UK travel advice describes as a closed currency, hard to exchange outside Morocco.
  • Moroccan Customs’ page for foreign visitors says up to 2,000 dirhams may leave Morocco with you, and that more is an exchange offence. Its arrival page sets the same amount coming in. The page carries no date, so look again before you fly.
  • Exchange at a bank or an authorised exchange point and keep the slip: Customs says a bank needs it to change leftover dirhams back.
  • If you bring in foreign banknotes worth 100,000 dirhams or more and plan to take some out again, declare them on arrival (Customs and UK travel advice).
  • Dirhams in hand help with the car as well: some companies take the deposit or the balance in cash, and so do the toll lanes.

Insurance levels on Moroccan hire cars

Levels seen in our 23 October 2026 search on rentals of 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after, plus what Morocco’s terms exclude.

Full Coverage Plus can take the deposit and the damage cap to zero

On 2 of 6 Marrakech and Agadir cars we priced to the final total on 23 October 2026, it brought the deposit and the damage cap down to zero. Compare the levels car by car before you pick one.

  • Minimum coverage came with every car; above it, some cars offered Basic coverage, some Full Coverage, some Full Coverage Plus, and not all three appeared on every Moroccan car. Full Coverage Plus was on 249 of the 398 cars in Marrakech, 160 of the 295 in Agadir and 298 of the 459 in Casablanca.
  • Damage to wheels, underbody, windscreen glass or the car’s interior sits outside Morocco’s standard cover.
  • An incident handled without that phone call or police report leaves Morocco’s cover void and the bill with you (clause 6; the steps are set out under the road rules below).
  • No level pays for damage done on purpose, vandalism or neglect. Cover for theft, and personal accident insurance, are add-ons on the cars listing them.

Driving in Morocco: the A3, then mountain and country roads

From ADM (the motorway operator), UK travel advice, NARSA (Morocco’s road safety agency), the Morocco rental terms and our routing; read 23 October 2026.

On the A3

  • One motorway, the A3, links Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir, with its own interchange for Casablanca airport (CMN) at km 13. ADM opened it in stages: Casablanca to Settat in 2001, Settat to Marrakech in 2007, and Marrakech to Agadir, two lanes each way, in June 2010.
  • South of Marrakech it crosses the Atlas: ADM lists two viaducts and the Zaouiat Aït Mellal tunnel on that stretch. We routed Marrakech airport to Agadir at about 3 h 15 min, not counting a toll-plaza stop.
  • Fuel on the way: ADM’s service areas at Settat, Oum Rbii, Benguerir and Marrakech serve both directions, and Amskroud serves traffic heading for Agadir.
  • UK travel advice tells drivers to watch for overloaded lorries, and trucks overtaking where there is no hard shoulder.

Off the motorway

  • Imlil and the Ourika valley are reached from Marrakech on the RN7 and then provincial roads, Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate on the RN9. Their times are the least certain on this page, and we have not checked the road surface.
  • Clause 8 of the Morocco terms allows paved public roads only and names no exceptions. Four-wheel drive does not change that; 27 of the 398 Marrakech cars were tagged as having it (searched 23 October 2026, rentals of 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after).
  • Kilometre caps: 19 cars in Marrakech, 14 in Agadir and 19 in Casablanca came with a daily limit in that search. Marrakech airport to Ouarzazate is 198.2 km by our routing, so a return trip is roughly twice that.
  • In poor weather, UK travel advice says, secondary routes and mountain roads “can be especially hazardous”, and heavy winter rain can cause flash flooding in the mountains or near rivers.
  • NARSA notes that some places lie under snow every winter and advises tyres suited to it then; we found no chain or winter-tyre rule, so ask the company what the car has before a winter mountain drive. Its winter campaigns also cover fog, heavy rain and slippery roads.
  • Ramadan: NARSA says traffic gets denser just before ftour, the meal that breaks the fast, and UK travel advice says driving may be erratic at dusk. The FCDO gives the next Ramadan as starting in February 2027.
  • After dark: the FCDO and NARSA both say to watch for pedestrians and animals on the road at night.
  • Parking in town: no official source on street parking in Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca answered us, so the local signs are your guide. Clause 11 puts parking on the renter, along with fuel, tolls and fines.
  • Ferries: none apply, since the car may not leave Morocco (clause 9).

Road rules in Morocco, as NARSA and ADM set them out

NARSA is Morocco’s road safety agency, and its articles are guidance, not the text of the highway code, which we could not read. ADM runs the motorways. Both read 23 October 2026; the posted signs always decide.

  • Side and roundabouts: traffic keeps to the right, according to NARSA. At roundabouts, follow the give-way signs.
  • Junctions with no signs or lights: NARSA says priority to the right applies in most cases.
  • Speed limits, according to NARSA: 20, 40 or 60 km/h in towns, generally 80 km/h on national roads (100 on some sections), and 120 km/h on motorways. ADM’s own campaign also asks motorway drivers not to drop below 80 km/h.
  • Alcohol: none at all. UK travel advice warns that any alcohol in your system can lead to a fine and possible imprisonment, and NARSA adds withdrawal of the licence.
  • Seat belts: front and back, NARSA says, with children under ten in the rear; NARSA also says going without one is fined.
  • Kit: NARSA lists spare bulbs, a warning triangle and a high-visibility vest as kit to carry in the car. See that they are in the boot before driving off.
  • Lights: NARSA advises dipped headlights at night and in rain, snow or fog, and full beam only outside towns, never in rain or fog.
  • Phones: do not use one while driving; NARSA also warns against handling a GPS on the move.
  • Checks and cameras: the gendarmerie (Gendarmerie Royale) and the national police (Sûreté Nationale) both run road checks, and NARSA has run automatic speed cameras since January 2022. Its online “Infractions routières” platform lets tourists in Moroccan-registered cars look up camera offences and pay those fines; under clause 11 a fine is the renter’s to pay.
  • Papers in the car: NARSA lists the licence, the insurance certificate, the registration card (carte grise) and the roadworthiness sticker, and UK travel advice says to carry insurance, licence and registration whenever you drive. The car’s papers come from the company, so check they are aboard at the handover.
After a crash or breakdown

Clause 6 of the Morocco terms comes first: phone the Moroccan company without delay, then get a police report, waived only if that company agrees. Miss one of the two and Morocco’s insurance stops applying. UK travel advice describes the “constat amiable”, a form completed and signed by both parties. On a motorway, ADM’s call centre on 5050 and its ADM Trafic app are both there day and night; UK travel advice gives police 190, ambulance and fire 150, gendarmerie 177.

Motorway tolls, airport parking and fuel

ADM’s figures as they stood on 23 October 2026; tolls are on you, not the company.

Section (ADM’s names)Class 1Class 2Class 3
Casablanca to Aéroport Mohammed V71012
Casablanca to Rabat253643
Casablanca to El Jadida Sud355567
Nouaceur to Marrakech Targa89133161
Marrakech Targa to Amskroud74124150
Échangeur Amskroud to Agadir5911
  • ADM prints these numbers with no currency, so they appear here exactly as published; the full tariff is on ADM’s site. It does not say which sections a trip from a given airport uses, so do not total them.
  • Your car’s class: ADM classes vehicles by axle count and the height over the front axle, windscreen included; class 1 means two axles and no more than 1.30 m. No source we read states which class a hire car falls in.
  • At the toll booth: pay with a Jawaz tag, a bank card, ADM’s network card or cash. Jawaz, ADM’s electronic tag, uses its own lanes at 20 km/h; a tag in your rental is the company’s call, not yours, so keep a card or dirhams to hand.
  • Airport car parks: ONDA’s site still showed, in November 2024, three car parks at Marrakech, and in March 2025 one at Agadir, where the ticket is paid at the exit cashier. The hire car goes back wherever the voucher says, which need not be any of these.
  • Fuel: clause 3 wants the pickup level back. Short of it, the company bills its own fuel rate, and extra is not refunded, so fill up at the last A3 service area or in town before the return.

The car stays in Morocco: no ferry to Spain

The border clause in the Morocco rental terms, and what it means for Spain.

The car cannot leave Morocco

Morocco’s terms rule out any border crossing in a rental car, the car ferries to Spain included.

  • No cross-border, green card or ferry extra appeared on Moroccan cars in our 23 October 2026 search, so nothing added at booking changes this.
  • Leaving the car in Spain: searching on 23 October 2026 for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after, not one car from Marrakech or Tangier could be dropped in Malaga.

  • Dates further ahead had fewer cars when we looked: Marrakech had 51 cars for June 2027 against 398 for November 2026. Your own dates may look different.
  • Columns overlap between cities: 268 of the 295 Agadir cars in November also appeared in the Marrakech search.

Seats, children, second drivers and pets

  • Up to five on board: a five-seat car, as long as the bags fit its boot.
  • Six to eight: 13 cars in Marrakech, 11 in Agadir and 15 in Casablanca offered 7 or 8 seats in our 23 October 2026 search for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after; use the seats filter and book early. Big cars were scarce in our searches: Casablanca’s 15 of 459 (3%) put it last of 19 destinations SabreCar lined up side by side, whose median sat at 12% (same reads and week; each destination is one search for the same week, some city-wide and some airport-only, so the lists are not like for like).
  • Nine or more: book two cars.
  • Child seats: an add-on, listed on 359 of 398 Marrakech cars in that search; choose it while booking.
  • Extra driver: available on 362 of 398 Marrakech cars in the same search; the car states the fee, plus its minimum age and required licence years.
  • Pets: small animals only, and only inside a carrier for the entire rental.

Cancelling, changing or extending a booking in Morocco

  • No penalty: cancel until 7 days before pickup; a convertible or luxury car in Morocco needs 30 days’ notice.
  • Cancellation option on some cars: with it, cancelling carries no penalty up to 24 hours before collection. In our 23 October 2026 search for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after it came with 290 of the 398 cars in Marrakech, 206 of the 295 in Agadir and 313 of the 459 in Casablanca.
  • How: write to the booking partner with “Cancel” in the subject and attach the voucher. The advance returns to you inside 14 days, keeping back only the 6% payment service fee.
  • Cancelling late: cancel any later, or fail to show, and the advance is lost. Date or car changes are handled as a cancellation plus a new booking.
  • “Or similar”: such a car may arrive as another model of the same kind; 208 of 398 Marrakech cars carried the label in that search, and a filter limits results to guaranteed models. Should a breakdown or force majeure leave the company without your booked car, it must supply a car one class up or the same class, at the same terms and price.
  • More days: ask the Moroccan company for an extension before your end time. Rentals run 24 hours at minimum, so a few extra hours are billed as a full day.

Morocco rental questions, answered

Can I hire in Marrakech, Agadir or Casablanca without a credit card?

Not on every car. Searching on 23 October 2026 for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after, the cars marked as needing one were 5 of 398 cars in Marrakech, 5 of 295 in Agadir and 5 of 459 in Casablanca. Other cars name the cards and methods they take, and some take nothing but a card, credit or debit. On cars that do require one, Moroccan companies want it physical, embossed and held by the main driver.

Do any Moroccan hire cars ask for no deposit?

Yes: 288 of 398 cars in Marrakech, 234 of 295 in Agadir and 327 of 459 in Casablanca showed a zero deposit (searched 23 October 2026, rentals of 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after). Even then a card may be wanted when you collect, so read the car’s payment methods. The rest show the deposit amount on the car page ahead of booking.

Could I drive the hire car onto a ferry to Spain?

No. Under Morocco’s terms a rental car stays on Moroccan soil, and nothing in our 23 October 2026 search let a Moroccan car cross a border or board a ferry. A 23 October 2026 search for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after found no Marrakech or Tangier car that could be left in Malaga.

Which Moroccan airports have hire cars waiting?

Marrakech (RAK), Agadir (AGA) and Casablanca (CMN). On 23 October 2026, for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after, 68 Marrakech cars, 43 Agadir cars and 112 Casablanca cars had the airport as their base; the rest come to a city address or another meeting point, as the search shows for your dates. Each car’s price already includes any delivery charge, and the meeting point is printed on your voucher.

Is it possible to land in Marrakech and leave from Agadir or Casablanca?

Yes: enter the other city as the return point. Our 23 October 2026 search for 16 November 2026 (a Monday) to the Monday after showed 268 Marrakech cars that could end in Agadir and 323 that could end in Casablanca. Delivery charges at either end are built into each total and differ a lot between companies. By road, Marrakech airport to Agadir airport takes about 3 h; to Casablanca airport, about 2 h 45 min.

Is there an age limit for Moroccan hire cars?

Yes, a lower and an upper one, set per car; even near-identical models can differ. On 6 cars from Marrakech and Agadir, priced to the final total on 23 October 2026: minimum age 21 to 26, maximum age 65 to 80, and a licence held 2 years or longer. Both ages appear on the car before booking.

What do I need to bring to pick up the car in Morocco?

Your original licence from home, in Latin letters and in date until the rental’s last day; neither copies nor electronic licences are accepted. If other countries do not recognise your licence, the rental terms strongly advise carrying an International Driving Permit, and UK government advice says UK drivers also need the 1968 permit. Bring your passport and the voucher as well.

What speed limits does NARSA give for Moroccan roads?

NARSA, Morocco’s road safety agency, gives 20, 40 or 60 km/h in towns depending on the place, generally 80 km/h on national roads (100 on some sections) and 120 km/h on motorways, the same top figure ADM, the motorway operator, uses. That is the agency’s guidance rather than the text of the highway code, so the posted signs decide (read 23 October 2026).
