Car sizes and day rates

Where do you pick up a car in Menorca?

Menorca cars are handed over at Menorca Airport. Your voucher gives the meeting point, the company’s name and its phone number.

At the airport

Local companies hand the car over at the spot your voucher names. Save their number before you travel.

Stay reachable

Have your phone switched on from the eve of pickup, country code included; that is how the company contacts you about the handover.

Arriving late

Search with the hour you land: night pickup is not offered on every car, and where it is, a surcharge may be in the price.

The airport is about 4.5 km from Mahón, and car rental at Menorca Airport means you collect the car as you arrive.

Do you need a credit card to hire a car in Menorca?

Menorca companies do not ask for a credit card, but every car carries a deposit, held at the handover. The car page lists the amount and the accepted cards.

Where a card is needed for the deposit, it must be the physical, embossed card of the main driver. Debit cards count only where the car allows them.

Every Menorca car holds a deposit; on the mainland, a few Alicante Airport cars come as car hire in Spain with no deposit.

Travelling with a debit card only? Menorca’s cars count as cars in Spain that need no credit card, but check whether the deposit takes a debit card.

Getting around the island

The Me-1 runs across Menorca from Mahón to Ciutadella. You pay any parking charges and fines during the rental.

  • Cala Galdana is reached off the Me-1 on the Me-22, and Fornells on the Me-7 in the north.
  • Monte Toro, in Es Mercadal, is a short turn off the Me-1 on the Me-13.
  • Rental cars may only use paved public roads, so leave unpaved tracks to the beaches alone.

Drives from Mahón

From Mahón: Menorca Airport, about 15 min for 8.1 km; Binibeca Vell, about 25 min for 13.1 km; Fornells, about 30 min for 26.0 km; Monte Toro, about 30 min for 25.4 km; Cala Galdana, about 40 min for 37.0 km; Ciutadella, about 50 min for 46.4 km.

Times are from Mahón on clear roads, before any stops.

What are the speed limits in Spain?

Outside towns the limit is 90 km/h, and 120 on motorways. In towns it is 50, 30 or 20 depending on the street.

Signs first

A posted limit always overrides the general one, so watch for lower limits near villages and junctions.

Roundabouts

Exit a roundabout from the right-hand outer lane. If you cannot get there safely, take another lap.

Beacon and vest

Spanish law requires a connected V-16 light instead of triangles. Wear the reflective vest if you step onto the road outside town.

Fines

Fines can be issued on the spot, and paying within 20 days halves them.

Call 112 in an emergency anywhere on Menorca.

Returning your Menorca hire car

Menorca cars go back to the airport where you collected them. For a ferry to Mallorca, ask the company before you book.

Back at the airport

Return the car to the airport point on your voucher. Leave time for the check before your flight.

Return check

The company checks the fuel and the condition of the car at return. Ask for the check to be done with you there.

Night returns

Some cars cannot be returned at night, and some add a charge. Pick a car that fits your flight time.

Menorca rates through the year

Each bar is the typical day rate for a week from the 15th, for a car collected at the airport.

One-week rentals, November 2026 through October 2027. N/A: no cars on offer yet for that month.

Big groups and child seats

Menorca has cars from four seats up to nine, in manual and automatic. Add child seats and extra drivers at booking.

Up to nine seats

Seven, eight and nine-seat vehicles are listed for larger groups. Check the boot still takes your luggage with all seats used.

Child seats

Child seats are extras with a price on each car. Pick one that matches your child’s size and age.

Second driver

Some cars offer a second driver as a paid extra. Add them at booking and check the car’s age and licence rules.

Gearbox filter

Automatic and manual cars are both on the island. Filter by gearbox to see only the type you drive.

What does the excess cover?

The excess is your share of a damage bill, set by the cover level. Pick the level on the car itself; it can also change the deposit.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Left out of standard cover. The wheels, underbody, windscreen and inside of the car are not covered by standard insurance.

Incident. Contact the company immediately and get a police report, unless it agrees otherwise. Skip this and the insurance is cancelled.

Cover voided. Deliberate damage, vandalism and neglect leave you without cover.

Excess versus deposit. The excess is what a damage claim can cost you; the deposit is the hold that secures it.

Driving licence and age

Bring the original licence, with details in Latin script and valid until you hand the car back. Copies and digital licences are refused.

Extra permit

If your licence is valid only where it was issued, an International Driving Permit is strongly advised. Show it when asked.

Driver conditions

Every car states its minimum age and licence years, which can vary between similar models. Drivers who do not meet them may be refused.

Fuel and the condition of the car

Return the car with the fuel it had when you collected it. Extensions need the company’s agreement in advance.

Fuel rules

  • If the tank is lower, you pay at the company’s rates. If it is fuller, there is no refund.

Condition

  • A car too dirty to inspect is washed at your expense. Only small pets in carriers may ride.

Ferries and travel abroad

The rental terms say nothing about ferries between the islands. Ask the rental company before booking if you plan to take the car on one.

Leaving Spain needs advance notice to the company, which prepares any documents. Do not assume the car may travel off Menorca without its agreement.

How do you cancel a Menorca booking?

By email to support, with your voucher attached. Many cars include an option to cancel up to 24 hours before pickup.

Without the option

The cut-off is 7 days before pickup, or 30 days for luxury cars and convertibles. Cancelling later, or not collecting the car, means the advance is kept.

Refunds and changes

Refunds arrive within 14 days of the request, minus a 6% payment fee. Changing the dates means making a new booking.

Menorca car rental questions

Is Minorca the same as Menorca?

Yes. Minorca is the English spelling of Menorca; both names mean the same island and the same rental cars.

Do Menorca cars have a kilometre limit?

Yes, every Menorca car has a daily cap. Check the allowance before planning long days out.

Can I pay the rest in cash?

It depends on the car. The voucher and the car page list how the balance can be paid.

What if the booked car cannot be supplied?

If a breakdown or a similar problem stops it, the company must offer a car of the same or a higher class, on the same terms and price.

Can I bring my dog?

Only small pets, kept in a travel carrier for the whole journey.
