Car hire at Menorca Airport

Local companies hand over every car here at the airport. None asks for a credit card, and each lists its deposit, cover and daily kilometre allowance before you pay.

Menorca Airport car hire deals

The six lowest weekly totals for a car collected and returned at MAH. Not one of them needs a credit card, and each lists its deposit.

How many seats and bags?

No premium cars were offered, and the convertible figure rests on a single car. Small cars are the cheapest class, and SUVs undercut standard cars here.

As elsewhere in Spain, every car belongs to a local firm that sets its own deposit and mileage rules.

How does the handover at Menorca Airport work?

All of these cars start and finish at the airport. Your voucher names the firm, where to find it and its phone number.

Finding the firm

With your bags collected, head for the meeting point printed on the voucher. There is no desk to queue at, so store the firm’s number before you fly.

Evening and night flights

Some cars cannot be handed over after dark and some cost more then. Enter the hour you actually land and the list adjusts.

First look at the car

Go round the bodywork with the firm, have every scratch written down, and note the fuel gauge you must match on return.

Staying in Mahón, about 15 minutes away? Car hire in Menorca uses the same airport handover, so you collect the car as you land either way.

Do you need a credit card to rent a car at Menorca Airport?

No. Not one airport car here insists on a credit card, though every car holds a deposit, so read how it is taken and when you get it back.

Not neededNo car here asks for a credit card
€200 to €1,700Deposit held at pickup
15 to 20%Paid online to book
At pickupThe rest, paid to the company

That puts Menorca among the easier islands for cars in Spain that need no credit card. Your voucher explains how the deposit is held and how the balance is settled.

Some cars at the two Tenerife airports hold no deposit at all, if car rental in Spain with no deposit matters more to you than the island.

Before your first island drive

Traffic direction

Traffic drives on the right. Set your first route before you move away from the meeting point.

Leaving roundabouts

Use the outer right-hand lane to leave a roundabout unless signs say otherwise; go around again if you cannot reach it safely.

Breakdown equipment

Check the car has a reflective vest and, if it is Spanish-registered, a connected V-16 light, and check how the light works.

Incident reporting

After an accident, tell the company at once and get a police report, unless the company agrees otherwise.

Leaving Menorca Airport for your accommodation

Ask your host for the best entrance and parking place before leaving the airport. Keep the address available offline for the final part of the drive.

From the airport: Mahón, about 15 min; Binibeca, about 25 min; Es Mercadal, about 25 min; Ciutadella, about 50 min.

Times are for clear roads without stops; the Ciutadella figure ends at Plaça des Born.

Stick to paved public roads

Hire cars may only use paved public roads. If the last stretch to a beach is a dirt track, park before it.

Taking your car to another island

The rental terms say nothing about ferries between the islands. If you plan to take the car to another island, ask the company before you book.

Where does the car go back?

Menorca cars return to the airport handover point unless your offer names another place. The voucher gives the return details.

Same place

Drive back to the spot where you met the firm, unless your offer lists a different return place.

Dawn departures

A very early flight may fall outside handover hours. Some cars cannot be returned then, and some charge extra.

Running late

Phone the firm on the voucher number before the agreed time passes if you are held up.

Typical daily prices at Menorca Airport

Each bar is the typical day rate for a week’s hire from the 15th, collected and returned at the airport.

N/A: no cars on offer yet for that month.

Drivers, child seats and luggage

Second driver

The cheapest cars charge for a second driver. Name them when you book; they must meet that car’s age and licence limits.

Child seats

Seats for children also carry a charge on these cars. Book them in advance and try the fitting before leaving MAH.

Bags and seats

The fleet runs from four-seat city cars to vans and minivans. Picture the boot with every seat taken before you choose.

Small pets

Only small animals may ride, shut in a carrier from start to finish. Leave space for it among the cases.

Insurance and excess on Menorca hire cars

Every car lists its cover levels, each with its own excess and deposit. Compare them before buying anything extra.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

No excess on the cheapest cars. The six deals above come with Basic cover and no excess, yet a deposit is still taken at the handover.

Parts never covered. Standard insurance stops short of the wheels, the underside, the windscreen and the cabin.

When cover is void. Deliberate harm, vandalism and neglect stay uninsured, whichever of the cover levels you choose.

Licence and driver checks

Bring the original national licence, in Latin script and valid until the car goes back. Copies and digital licences are refused.

International permit

A licence recognised only in its home country should travel with an International Driving Permit; it is strongly recommended.

Age and experience

Each car sets its own minimum age and licence years. Look again if you switch to another car.

Returning the car full and clean

Match the fuel gauge you started with, and leave the car clean enough to inspect.

Fuel at return

  • Any shortfall is billed at the firm’s own fuel rate; a fuller tank is not refunded.

Sand and dirt

  • Too much beach sand to see the paintwork means a wash on your bill, so shake it out first.

Cancelling a Menorca Airport booking

The six cheapest cars here come with a 24-hour cancellation option included at no extra cost. Check that the car you pick has it too.

Without that option

Give at least seven days’ notice, or 30 for luxury cars and convertibles. Missing the deadline, or not turning up, costs you the advance.

Refunds and changes

Write to support with the voucher; your refund arrives within 14 days, minus 6% for payment costs. New dates mean cancelling and booking again.

Menorca Airport car rental questions

Do I need a credit card to rent a car at Menorca Airport?

No car listed at MAH asks for one. Each still takes a deposit, and the listing says how.

Is there a mileage limit on Menorca hire cars?

Yes. Each car here has a daily kilometre allowance, and going over it costs extra. The figure is on the listing.

Can I collect the car late at night?

Some cars are not offered after dark and some add a fee. Type in your true arrival time to see which remain.

Can I refuel at the airport before the return?

Aena lists the petrol station in the P1 car park as open from 08:00 to 13:00 and from 15:30 to 18:30. Fill up elsewhere for an early or late return.

Can someone else drive the car?

Yes, once they are named on the booking. The cheapest cars here charge for it, and the extra driver must meet that car’s limits.
