Car hire at Tangier Airport

Car rental at Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, with local firms compared side by side. Plenty of cars hold no deposit, and every total includes the airport handover.

Cheap car rental at Tangier Airport for seven days

Every total is for a week with pickup and return at Ibn Battouta, and already includes any airport handover charge.

Car sizes for Tangier and the north

The class figures show the cheapest of each size in the week above; most cars cost more, with the middle one near €80 a day.

Class prices are for a car handed over and returned at Tangier Airport, not the port, the station or a hotel. Manual and automatic cars are both on offer.

The cars above seat five, and seven-seaters are offered too. Allow for your luggage when you choose.

Where do you collect car hire at Tangier Airport?

The voucher tells you where to meet the company and gives its phone number.

Keep the voucher to hand

Save it on your phone so it opens offline. It names the company, the meeting point and who to call when you land.

Stay on the phone

Keep your number reachable from the day before pickup, with its country code. Messaging apps help if calls fail.

Walk round the car

Before you drive off, check the bodywork and fuel with the company and get any marks added to the record.

If you land late, send the company your new time as early as you can.

Most cars here carry a charge for the airport handover, and the totals already include it. Compare full prices.

Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport guide: services, parking and the road south

Meeting the company, parking during the hire, the other handover places in Tangier and the first rules of the road.

Collecting and returning your car

  1. Set the airport at both ends and the handover charge shows in the total.
  2. Allow time for the handback before check-in on the way home.
  3. Leaving from Rabat? Choose Rabat Airport as the return.
Arriving after dark? A pickup in the small hours can cost more on some cars. Your real times bring any extra into the total.

Driving away from Tangier Airport

  1. Keep to the right the basic rule on every road.
  2. Roundabouts go by the give-way sign and line.
  3. Give-way line at the ring? Wait for cars already on it.
Going south to Rabat? The route follows the A5 motorway for most of the way. Plan a fuel stop before the return.

At the airport

  • Phone reachable Keep the booking number working from the day before pickup.
  • Licence Bring the original with details in Latin script; copies are refused.
  • Other handover places Port Tangier Ville and Tangier Ville station, on some cars.

Parking and the return

  • Returning the car? Meet the company at the place on your voucher.
  • City delivery is also offered, with its own price.

Do you need a credit card to rent a car at Tangier Airport?

None of the six cars above needs one, and none holds a deposit at its starting cover. Still check each car, as conditions vary.

You pay 15 to 20% in advance when booking and the balance to the company at pickup, in the ways listed on the car.

Should a car need a card, it must be a physical embossed card in the main driver’s name, and a debit card only works where the voucher allows it.

Travelling without a credit card? None of the cars above asks for one, and neither do many cars elsewhere in Morocco.

How far is Tangier Airport from the city centre?

The Grand Socco is 12.6 kilometres from the airport, about 20 minutes by car without traffic. The other cards cover the motorway drives south.

Driving out of Tangier Airport

Spend a moment with the controls before you leave, and keep the first drive short.

Limits to know

NARSA, the road safety agency, gives 20, 40 or 60 km/h in towns, usually 80 on national roads and 120 on motorways. Signs come first.

Fog and rain

NARSA warns of fog and heavy rain in winter and advises dipped headlights, never full beam, in both. Slow down and leave a bigger gap.

Required kit

NARSA lists a yellow vest, a warning triangle and spare bulbs as kit to carry. Ask where they are kept at the handover.

Calls and emergencies

NARSA warns against phone use at the wheel. UK travel advice gives 190 for police and 150 for ambulance or fire.

Report any accident or damage to the company immediately and get a police report, unless the company says otherwise.

Fuel, parking, tolls and fines are for the renter to pay.

Paved roads, always

Mountain tracks in the Rif and sandy roads to the beaches are off limits unless they are paved.

The rental conditions for Morocco keep every car on paved public roads, so unsurfaced shortcuts are out.

No ferry, no border

A hire car from Tangier cannot cross any border or leave Morocco by sea.

The rental terms rule out driving across Morocco’s borders, and the port places in Tangier are handover points only. The car cannot board a ferry.

Can you pick up at Tangier Airport and return at Rabat Airport?

Yes, many cars can be handed back at Rabat Airport. Choose both airports in the search to see the one-way price.

Choose Rabat Airport

Set the airport as the return place rather than Rabat city. Changing it means a new quote.

Ask where to return

The company confirms where to meet at Rabat Airport. Leave time for the check before flying.

Agree any changes

Contact the company before changing the date or place, and wait for its yes. A different drop-off is priced again.

The A5 motorway takes about 2 hours 45 minutes, so finishing at Rabat Airport suits a trip that heads south. Allow extra time for fuel and the handback.

Tangier Airport prices through the year

Each bar is a typical day rate for seven days, collected and returned at Tangier Airport. Months with no car offered show N/A.

N/A means no car was offered for that month.

Handover charges are part of these prices; pickup times, extras and cover change them.

Charges run in 24-hour days, so a short overrun costs a full day. Tell the company in advance before extending.

Drivers, children and luggage for a Tangier pickup

Put every driver and child seat into the booking before you pay, so nothing is missing at the airport.

Another driver

Add any second driver as an extra. They bring their own licence and must meet the age and experience rules for the car.

Child seats

Book a child seat as an extra for each child who needs one. Check the fit before setting off from the airport.

Room for luggage

The cars above have five seats, and seven-seaters are offered too. Pick a size with space for your cases as well as people.

Travelling pets

Only small pets may travel, and only in a carrier for the whole rental. Leave room for it in the car.

What does car rental insurance cover at Tangier Airport?

Cars here start on different levels of cover. Check which level is included before you compare prices.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Basic on four. The Picanto, Logan, GX3 Pro and Grand i10 above include Basic (CDW), covering damage with an excess still to pay.

Full included on some cars. Some cars here already include Full Coverage, but an excess remains even at that level.

Minimum on some. Some start with Minimum (TPL); the upgrade, Basic, covers damage but still leaves an excess.

Plus on two. The Grand i10 and GX3 Pro offer Full Coverage Plus, the only level here that removes the excess. None of the four holds a deposit.

Standard cover does not include wheels, the underside, the windscreen or the interior, and deliberate damage through vandalism or neglect cancels it. Compare the cover levels before you decide.

Licence rules at Tangier Airport

Bring the original licence, in Latin script and valid for the whole rental. Copies and electronic licences are refused.

Do you need an IDP?

Carry one if your licence only counts in its home country. UK travel advice says UK licence holders need the 1968 IDP.

Age limits

Every car shows its own minimum age and years of driving. Drivers who fall short can be turned away.

Your passport and booking voucher are needed at the handover too.

Returning the car at Tangier Airport

Fuel and cleanliness are checked when the car comes back.

Fuel back to the start level

  • Refill to the level at pickup. Any shortfall is charged at the company’s price, and extra is not paid back.

Clean enough to check

  • A car too dirty to inspect is washed, and you pay.

Leave room in your schedule for the inspection, and get any extra days agreed beforehand.

Cancelling a Tangier Airport booking

Cancel and book again to change the car or dates.

How much notice

Seven days for ordinary cars and thirty for luxury cars or convertibles. With the short-notice cancellation option, 24 hours is enough.

Money back

Late cancellations and no-shows keep the advance. Earlier ones are refunded minus a 6% payment fee.

Tangier Airport car hire questions

Yes. Automatics are offered; check the gearbox on the car itself before booking.

Many include a charge for bringing the car to the airport. It is shown in the total, so compare full prices.

Is a night pickup possible at Tangier Airport?

On some cars, yes, sometimes for an extra charge. Search with your real landing time to see it.

Can I take the hire car on the ferry to Spain?

No. Hire cars from Morocco must stay in the country, even when collected at a Tangier port.
