Explore Heraklion vehicle choicesTown prices cover office pickup and delivery to your address; airport pickup is not included. Check the pickup place before you choose a car size.
Town cars are delivered to your address or picked up at an office. An office car does not include hotel delivery or an airport meeting.
Some town cars are picked up at a rental office. Your booking gives the office address.
Other cars come to your address. Delivery is free on some cars; on others the charge is in the price.
Give your full address and access details. If a car cannot reach your door, agree another meeting spot.
Add the country code to your number and stay reachable from the day before pickup to the end. Choose Heraklion Airport pickup if you need a car on landing. A port pickup must be confirmed for your car and does not include ferry permission.
The cheapest town cars need no credit card and no deposit. Other cars may have no deposit but still need a credit card.
No credit card does not mean cash is accepted. Check how you can pay the rental, any deposit and when it comes back.
If a credit card is needed, the main driver brings their own physical embossed card. Debit works only if the booking says so, with the same rules.
Pay 15 to 20% online and the rest to the company at pickup; any deposit is separate. Compare no-deposit car rentals in Crete or cars that need no card for your dates.
These times start at Heraklion Airport. If you pick up at a town office later, plan day trips from that address instead.

Heraklion Airport to Heraklion is 5.3 km, about 10 min. Chania Airport to Heraklion is 156.1 km, about 3 h. Landing in the west? Car rental at Chania Airport can end in Heraklion on some cars.
The Heraklion time ends at Lions Square, not at the rental office. Use the meeting address in your confirmation for the last stretch.
If you spend your first days in town, start the rental when you need the car. You may not need an airport pickup for the whole stay. For a beach stay, car rental in Hersonissos is by delivery, about 30 minutes from Heraklion Airport.
The town’s maps show normal parking, resident spaces, disabled bays and old-town loading places. The port runs its own paid car parks.
The municipal parking page maps each type of space. Check the signs where you park; not every marked bay is open to visitors.
Port Area 1 costs €3.50 for three hours, then €0.50 an hour, up to €8 a day after ten hours. Areas 2 and 3 cost €3 for three hours, then €0.40 an hour, up to €10 a day.
Port parking does not end your rental. Only return the car where the company agrees; never leave it in a public car park without their say-so.
The new motorway will bypass Heraklion, and parts of the old road have had safety work. Follow the roads that are open and signed today.
The stretch from the Heraklion landfill to Linoperamata is finished. Bollards split the traffic, with passing lanes that switch sides where the road is wide enough.
The Heraklion bypass and the new airport at Kastelli are still being built, with a motorway link planned for Kastelli. Your booked pickup airport does not change.
Roadworks can change a familiar drive. Follow the signed lanes; the overtaking lane does not run the whole way and depends on road width.
The new motorway will have tolls once it is finished, so do not count on a toll-free trip or on sections that are not open yet. You pay any road charges.
On a day out, allow time for delays and the last local roads, especially into the mountains or to the south coast.
From Heraklion you can return in Chania, Rethymno or Agios Nikolaos. Enter the return town when searching to see cars and the return charge.

Car hire in Agios Nikolaos →
Agios Nikolaos one-ways start at a Heraklion office or address.
An airport pickup is a separate search, so check it pairs with your return town. For Rethymno, agree the return address and time. Compare the full one-way price, and get approval before changing it.
The chart shows the lowest town office and delivery prices, not airport pickup. Each month is a week-long hire from the 15th, November 2026 to October 2027.
Choose your own dates and pickup place for the final price.
Office and delivered cars can cost different amounts in the same month. Some cars have no delivery fee; others include one in the price. Compare full prices for your pickup place.
The minimum charge is one full day. Return later than the same time next day and you pay another day. Ask the company before you extend.
The chart does not reserve a car or fix its price. Add cover, extras and any other return place before comparing.
Some cars offer a second driver, so check the car you choose; it is not included on every town car.
Book child seats before your office pickup or delivery. Many town cars offer baby seats and boosters; check the equipment for your car.
The company must accept any extra driver before they drive. Check the car’s rules and have them added to the rental agreement.
Small pets can travel if they stay in a carrier the whole time; larger animals are not allowed. Leave room for the carrier.
Check seats and boot space for everyone before pickup, and how child seats are supplied, so you are ready to go.
No deposit does not always mean nothing to pay for damage. Town cars come with different cover and upgrades.
Office cars. Some no-deposit cars still leave €500 or €600 to pay for damage under Basic and Full Coverage. Full Coverage Plus brings it to zero.
Delivered cars. Some include Basic or Full Coverage Plus with no deposit and nothing to pay for covered damage.
Exclusions. Damage to wheels, underbody, windscreen or interior is not covered. Neglect, vandalism and banned trips void the cover, even with an upgrade.
After an incident, tell the company at once and get a police report, unless they agree another way. Skip this and your cover is void, so you pay the full cost.
Bring original documents valid for the whole hire and check the car’s age and experience rules. An IDP is recommended with your licence.
Without the right documents, the company can refuse the car. Digital licences and photocopies are not accepted; bring the original.
Driver rules can differ between similar cars, so check yours. Bring the physical payment card if one is required.
The Crete rental terms set out the driver rules in full.
Wear seat belts, use child seats and use your phone hands-free only. Check the car has a fire extinguisher, warning triangle and first-aid kit.
Ask customer support about any ferry trip before you book. Even with a ferry agreed, the car cannot cross into another country.
A ferry route from the port does not mean your hire car may board.
Agree the sailing with the company before you book. A ferry ticket or a port pickup does not replace that permission.
Keep to paved public roads. An SUV is still not allowed on the gravel road towards Balos or other unpaved tracks.
Cancel standard cars seven days ahead and luxury cars or convertibles thirty days ahead. With the cancellation option, twenty-four hours is enough.
Email to cancel and attach your voucher. Refunds come within fourteen days, less six percent.
Miss pickup without notice, or cancel or change late, and you lose the advance. To change the hire, cancel and book again, checking the notice first.
No. An office car starts at the office. Choose city delivery if you want the car brought to where you stay, and agree the meeting details.
No. Your booking must confirm the pickup place for that car. A port pickup is also not permission to take the car on a ferry.
Yes. Some office cars have no deposit but leave €500 to pay for damage under Basic and Full Coverage. Full Coverage Plus brings that to zero.
Only if the company agrees that as the return place. Port parking does not end the rental or handle the keys.
Not always. If the offer allows a similar model, you may get another car; choose the guaranteed-model option if the exact car matters.
Pick your dates and office or delivery pickup, then check the total, payment and cover for your town car.
