Car hire in Hersonissos, Crete

Hersonissos hotel delivery from local rental firms, free on some cars. Pick deposit-free cars that also need no credit card, and check the insurance before you reserve.

Cheap rental cars delivered in Hersonissos

These six cars come with Full Coverage, no deposit and no credit card needed. Prices include delivery and collection; all six are manual.

Choosing the vehicle for a resort stay

Can the car come to your Hersonissos hotel?

Yes, someone from the company brings the car to your agreed address. Give your property and meeting point before the appointment.

Delivery to your hotel

Give your hotel name, address and way in. If the entrance is hard to reach, agree a nearby meeting point.

Phone contact

Your booking phone, with the country code, should be on from the day before pickup to the end of the hire.

Return meeting

Agree where the car is checked and handed back, and the return time, especially if it differs from checkout.

To drive from the airport, choose pickup at Heraklion Airport; hotel delivery does not include that transfer. The featured cars have no charge for daytime delivery, but some Hersonissos cars do. At handover, check the car, fuel and extras.

Is a deposit or credit card needed to hire a car?

The featured cars need no deposit and no credit card. Other Hersonissos cars can need one or both, so check each one.

You pay 15 to 20% online when you book and the rest at pickup. A deposit, where a car needs one, is separate. No deposit still leaves the hire balance and extras to pay, and no credit card does not always mean cash is accepted.

When a credit card is needed, the main driver hands over their own physical card with embossed details. Debit works only if the booking allows it.

Check the deposit and the cover together. Crete car hire with no deposit can still come with exclusions or an excess, so check each car.

How far is Hersonissos from Heraklion Airport?

Hersonissos is 26.3 km from Heraklion Airport, around thirty minutes on clear roads. All six drives leave out pickup, traffic and stops.

Chania Airport is much further: 183.8 kilometres, about three hours fifteen minutes without delays. From Heraklion Airport you mainly follow the existing north-coast road.

The drive time ends in the town, not at your hotel or villa, so add time for the last stretch. It also leaves out waiting for luggage and checking the car.

The other drives start at Heraklion Airport, not Hersonissos. For a day out from your hotel, plan from there and check for roadworks on the north-coast road. Malia is about 35 minutes from Heraklion Airport.

Parking and access at the accommodation

Arrange where to keep the car after delivery, including how to get in. Hotel delivery does not come with a parking space.

  • Ask your host whether parking is included, where the entrance is and whether a bigger car will fit. Do not leave the car at the handover point all week.
  • Check the signs and how to pay where you park. Stick to the time allowed, including when loading luggage or waiting for the handover.

Follow the street signs and ask your hotel for the best way in; a town address may not lead you to the right entrance.

Parking charges and fines during the hire are yours to pay. The delivery price, or free delivery, does not cover public parking.

If the car arrives before check-in or stays after checkout, agree parking for that time too. Ask the company where it wants to check the car at the end.

The north-coast road around Hersonissos

A new north-coast motorway is being built from Chania to Hersonissos and beyond. For now you drive on the existing roads, with signed roadworks.

Chania to Hersonissos

This stretch is part of the new north-coast road. Do not expect the whole new motorway to be open yet; follow the signed route.

East towards Neapoli

The road from Hersonissos to Neapoli is also planned. Use the roads open on the day and follow the signs heading east.

Beyond Neapoli

Work towards Agios Nikolaos has no guaranteed finish date. Check current road conditions before you set off.

Future toll arrangements

The new road will have tolls once it is built. Tolls are separate from your rental price.

Follow temporary lane markings, barriers and signs through roadworks, even if your sat nav says otherwise. Leave extra time before a fixed return.

Use paved public roads only, even in an SUV or a large car. Check access before planning a stop off the usual route.

For long trips, check the mileage rule: it may be a kilometre allowance or unlimited kilometres. Similar cars can have different rules.

Can a hotel delivery finish at an airport?

Some cars delivered in Hersonissos can be returned at Heraklion Airport or Chania Airport. Choose your airport when you search.

For the featured cars, an airport return price already covers delivery and the airport handback. Other cars may charge more or not offer it. Plan your drive from your hotel, with time for the car check and your flight, and agree any change of return place first.

Hersonissos rental prices across twelve months

Each figure is the lowest day rate for a week from the fifteenth, delivery free, from November 2026 to October 2027. Your own dates give your price.

Prices are for cars with free delivery only.

Cars on offer change week to week. The chart is a guide, not a price for your dates.

Even a short hire is charged as twenty-four hours. Pick up in the morning and return after lunch the next day, and you pay for two days.

To keep the car longer, ask the company before your return time and agree the new time and price. Keeping the keys does not extend the hire.

Passengers, automatic cars and child equipment

Choose your seats and gearbox before delivery. The featured cars offer child seats and a second driver; all six are manual.

Transmission choice

The same model can come as a manual or an automatic, so look at the gearbox on your car and be sure every driver can use it.

Passenger space

Match the seats to your group, then allow for bags and child seats. A bigger car class does not promise more boot space.

Child restraints

Book the baby seat, child seat or booster you need. Ask how it is fitted and check it before your first drive.

Another driver

Add the other driver to the agreement before they drive. The car’s age and driving experience rules apply to them too.

What protection comes with these delivery cars?

The six featured cars include Full Coverage with no deposit and no excess. They have no Plus option, and not every car offers every level.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Included cover. Full Coverage costs nothing extra on the six featured cars. Look at the level on your own booking.

Deposit and excess. The featured cars have no deposit and no excess. Other Hersonissos cars can differ.

What is not covered. Standard cover excludes the windscreen, cabin, wheels and underside. Deliberate damage, banned roads, neglect and vandalism are never covered.

Report any incident. Tell the company straight away and get a police report unless it agrees otherwise. If you skip a step, your cover may not apply.

Keep the company’s number and your insurance level details with you, even with no deposit.

Documents to prepare before delivery

Pack your national driving licence plus an International Driving Permit, which is recommended. Each must stay valid to the end of the hire.

Original documents

Bring the originals; digital licences and copies are not accepted. Missing documents can mean the company will not hand over the car.

Age and experience

Check every driver against the car’s age and licence experience rules. Similar cars differ, and the company can refuse a driver who does not qualify.

Keep your voucher with your licence and any card your booking asks for; the Crete rental terms set out the driver rules.

Responsibilities during the drive and return

Greek law means seat belts on, children in child seats and only hands-free calls. Check the car’s safety kit with the company before your first drive.

Equipment and roads

  • Check for a warning triangle, first-aid kit and fire extinguisher. Stick to paved public roads; no car type is allowed on unpaved roads.

Fuel at handback

  • Hand back the fuel level you started with; the company bills its rate for any shortfall and keeps extra. Bring it back clean enough to check.

Fuel, parking, tolls and fines are yours to pay during the hire.

Leaving Crete with the rental vehicle

The car may not leave Greece, and any ferry between an island and the mainland has to be agreed with customer support before booking.

Raise a ferry trip with support while you are picking a car. Holding a ferry ticket is not permission, and neither is an airport return in Crete.

Changing a Hersonissos reservation

Cancelling a standard car takes a week’s notice, a luxury car or convertible thirty days, and twenty-four hours if you added the cancellation option.

Request with the voucher

Email your cancellation with your voucher. A refund can take up to fourteen days, minus six euros in every hundred paid for processing.

Late changes and no-shows

Cancel or change late, or miss pickup without agreement, and you lose the advance. To change a booking, cancel it and book again.

For more time with the car, ask the company before your return time. The booking terms explain cancellations and changes.

Questions about car hire in Hersonissos

Is an airport pickup included with hotel delivery?

No. Delivery starts at your Hersonissos address. If you want the car when you land, choose airport pickup instead and compare that price.

Will the company bring the model in the picture?

Not always. Where a car says “Or similar”, the company can bring a comparable model. Check the offer if you need that exact model.

Are automatic cars available for delivery?

Yes. The six featured cars are manual, but automatic cars are offered for delivery too. Check the gearbox and rules on the car before you book.

Can a deposit-free car still require credit?

Yes. The deposit and card rules are separate. The six featured cars need no credit card, but some cars with no deposit still do.

Who handles a question about the delivered car?

The company in your confirmation. Keep your booking phone reachable from the day before pickup until the end of the hire, so it can arrange the meeting and talk about the car.
