Car rental at Valencia Airport

Local companies hand over cars at VLC. Credit cards are not required, and every listing spells out the deposit, the cover level and any limit on distance.

Valencia Airport car rental deals

The six lowest weekly totals for cars collected and returned at the airport. Look at the deposit as well as the price, as it swings from €150 to over €1,000 between these cars.

How much luggage space do you need?

Class rates are typical day prices for the same week as the deals. Premium cars and convertibles rest on only a handful of offers each, so their figures move more than the others.

As elsewhere in Spain, each car comes from a local company with its own deposit and mileage rules.

Where do you meet the company at Valencia Airport?

The company’s name, meeting point and phone number are all on the voucher. Keep it offline on your phone.

Shuttle or meeting point

Some of the cheapest VLC cars come with a shuttle bus ride to the company’s car park. The voucher tells you where to wait for it.

Landing late

Night handovers are not on offer for every car, and some carry a surcharge. Your real landing time in the search filters them.

Damage record

Photograph the car with the agent present, check every mark is noted on the handover form, and read the fuel gauge.

Flash floods Flash floods can disrupt travel and damage roads, so check AEMET weather warnings before any long drive.

Do you need a credit card to rent a car at Valencia Airport?

No credit card is required on any VLC car listed. A deposit is, and the listing shows how it is taken and returned.

Not neededNo car here asks for a credit card
€100 to €1,700Deposit held at pickup
15 to 20%Paid online to book
At pickupThe rest, paid to the company

Planning to use a debit card? Valencia Airport is one of the simplest starts for cars in Spain that need no credit card; check that your car accepts the card you will bring.

Every car here holds a deposit; cars with none turn up at the two Tenerife airports, for anyone after car hire in Spain with no deposit.

Joining traffic with confidence

Traffic direction

Spain drives on the right. If you miss a turn, follow the signs and let the navigation recalculate rather than braking suddenly.

Leaving roundabouts

Exit roundabouts from the outer lane unless arrows allow another. Missed the exit? Take another lap rather than cut across.

Breakdown equipment

Before driving off, look for the reflective vest and, on a Spanish-registered car, the connected V-16 light the law requires.

Incident reporting

If anything happens to the car, ring the company at once and ask the police for a report, unless the company agrees otherwise.

Leaving Valencia Airport for your accommodation

Save your accommodation’s address in the navigation before you collect the car, so the first drive starts without fuss.

From the airport: Valencia, about 15 min; El Palmar, about 30 min; Sagunt, about 35 min; Xàtiva, about 55 min; Gandia, about 1 h.

Each time assumes empty roads and no stops; the city figure ends at Plaça de l’Ajuntament. The Gandia route runs on the AP-7, so check whether that stretch charges a toll.

Set your route before driving

Set the navigation before you move off. Using a phone while driving is illegal in Spain, even when pulled over at the roadside.

Driving abroad

Tell the rental company in advance about any journey outside Spain so it can arrange the required documents.

Can you return your Valencia Airport car elsewhere?

Some Valencia Airport cars can be returned at Alicante or Barcelona Airport, or in Madrid. Choose the return place in the search; the one-way charge is in the price you see.

Choose both places

Enter VLC as the start and your end city together; only the pairs that appear can be booked.

Check the total

With the return city chosen, set totals side by side: the one-way charge varies by car.

Confirm the return

Find out where the drop-off is at the far end and how the check runs, then add that time before your flight.

Flying home from Alicante Airport? It is the return place with the most Valencia cars on offer.

Typical daily prices at Valencia Airport

Bars give the usual daily price for a seven-day airport hire starting mid-month.

N/A: no cars on offer yet for that month.

Making room for your group

Extra drivers

Add everyone who will drive to the booking, and check each one meets the car’s age and licence rules.

Child seats

Child seats are priced extras on the car. Add them at booking and check the fitting before you leave.

Bags and seats

Check the car with your full passenger count in mind. The boot still needs to fit your cases and any pushchair.

Travelling pets

The car can carry a small pet in a travel carrier. Your pet must stay inside it for the journey.

Cover and excess on Valencia hire cars

Each car lists its cover levels with the excess and the deposit under each. The cheap cars here differ more than the prices suggest.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Full Coverage on some cheap cars. Several of the cars above come with Full Coverage included, no excess and a deposit of €150.

An excess on others. Other cars carry Basic cover with an excess as large as the deposit, up to €1,100 on the cars above.

Never covered. Wheel, underbody, windscreen and interior damage are outside standard cover, and vandalism or neglect voids it.

Read the levels. The cover levels on each car list their own excess, so a dearer car may already include the protection you would pay extra for elsewhere.

Licence and age checks

The main driver needs the original national licence in Latin script, valid for the whole rental. Photocopies are not accepted.

International permit

If your licence is valid only in the country that issued it, an International Driving Permit is strongly recommended too.

Age and experience

Minimum age and years of driving are set car by car, even between similar models. Check them before you pay.

Fuel and cleaning at the return

Match the fuel level from pickup and bring the car back clean enough to inspect.

Fuel at return

  • Missing fuel is charged at the company’s price, and extra fuel is not paid back.

Vehicle condition

  • A car returned too dirty to check is washed at your expense, so shake out sand and rubbish first.

Cancelling a Valencia Airport booking

Several deals above let you cancel up to 24 hours before pickup at no extra cost; the rest follow the standard deadlines.

Standard deadlines

Ordinary cars need seven days’ notice; luxury cars and convertibles need thirty. Miss it, or miss the pickup, and the advance is not returned.

Refunds and changes

Ask support by email, voucher attached. The refund comes within 14 days with 6% kept for payment costs; changes are made by rebooking.

Valencia Airport car hire questions

Do I need a credit card to rent a car at Valencia Airport?

Not for any car listed at VLC. Expect a deposit instead; its size and the way it is taken show on each car.

Do Valencia hire cars have a mileage limit?

Many cars here work with a daily kilometre allowance and charge for extra distance; others are unlimited. Read the figure on the car.

Can I collect the car late at night?

Only on cars that offer a night handover, and some charge for it. The search shows them once you enter the landing time.

Who pays for fuel, parking and tolls?

You do. Fuel, parking, fines and toll roads during the rental are the renter’s to pay, so keep the receipts.

What happens if I need more time with the car?

Tell the company in advance, before the rental ends, and keep to the agreed return time until it confirms.
