Car hire deals without a credit card

Where would you like the handover?

Collect at Mauritius Airport or ask for delivery to a town address; Belle Mare and Mahébourg too. Delivery costs are in the total.

How is the rental bill paid?

Advance online

Reserve online by paying 15 to 20%, counted on the rent alone. At pickup, pay the rest and any quoted handover charge to the company.

Balance in cash

Some Mauritius cars want cash only for the hire balance, others cash or a card. A debit deposit can still mean a cash balance.

Debit acceptance

Debit approval must be in your booking and voucher. The main driver brings a personal embossed card; a companion’s card or a copy fails.

Euro quotation

Mauritius prices and deposits are quoted in euros. Read your car’s payment instructions before getting money ready; companies differ.

What happens to the security money?

Cash or debit security

Some cars, including at the airport, take the deposit in cash or by debit. Check deposit methods separately from balance methods.

Return arrangements

How and when the deposit comes back is in the booking and voucher. Read it first and ask if unsure; it can take time.

Insurance for Mauritius car hire

Compare the cover on your booking, what it leaves out and how much damage cost stays with you.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)
  • Basic CDW limits collision costs. Windscreen, interior, underbody and wheels fall outside standard cover; see if an upgrade changes that.
  • Full includes Super CDW, and your damage share may drop or stay put. On some cars an upgrade lowers the deposit but not that share.
  • Plus, the top level, means no driver share after accident damage, priced per car, though some models lack it. Some zero-deposit cars keep a share below it.
  • Neglect and vandalism void the cover. Do not drive in floods or from a category three cyclone up; that damage is excluded. Check the weather warnings and use paved roads.
Handling an incident

Alert the rental company as soon as something happens and request a police report, unless the agent approves another procedure. Without both, insurance is void and you are liable.

When might a company require credit?

Individual rental terms

The Mauritius agreement lets a company ask for credit on a particular booking. Pick a car that clearly offers another way to pay.

Credit-only bookings

A credit booking needs the main driver’s real credit card, embossed with their details, at pickup. Booking online does not replace it.

How to choose a suitable vehicle

  1. Enter the trip

Set pickup and return points in Mauritius with dates and times. Add the driver’s licence years and age so the results suit them.

  2. Use the card filter

Apply No credit card to narrow the list, then open the car. Look at the extras before going ahead with the one you want.

  3. Save the contacts

After you reserve, keep the confirmation with the company’s phone and email, and send them any car or pickup questions before you travel.

Payment eligibility versus a zero hold

No credit requirement

This is about accepted payment. You can book without a credit card yet still need cash ready to leave as a deposit.

No security payment

This is about money held apart from the rent. With no deposit, you still pay the hire and extras.

Questions before your island trip

What licence do I need for a Mauritius rental paid in cash?

Your physical national licence, with details in Latin letters, valid to the last day of the hire; digital licences and copies are not enough. A domestic-only licence should come with an International Driving Permit, strongly advised.

Can my pickup time change the price?

Yes, possibly. Companies may charge for handing over or taking back the car at certain times, not only at night. Use your real times for the right total.

What are the cancellation deadlines?

Give ordinary cars a week, luxury or convertible ones thirty days; the cancellation option cuts it to twenty-four hours. A late change, late cancellation or unarranged missed pickup loses the advance. Refunds: up to fourteen days, 6% kept.

May I take the hired vehicle out of Mauritius?

No. The agreement bans taking the car out of the country, and paying another way does not change that.

Does a cash-paid rental have a different fuel-return rule?

No. However you pay, return the fuel that was in it at pickup. Shortfalls cost the company’s own tariff; extra fuel is not repaid, at the airport or with delivery.
