Car hire in Le Morne

Rent in Le Morne with door delivery, or start at Mauritius Airport (MRU) where some cars carry no deposit. No car asks for a credit card; insurance appears before payment.

Le Morne hire deals and airport alternatives

The six cheapest this week are airport pickups; their prices do not cover bringing the car to Le Morne.

Compare the car with your passenger plans

Where does a Le Morne rental begin?

Have the car brought to your Le Morne address, or pick it up at the airport when you land. Go with whichever fits your plans.

Delivered to you

Give the company your full address and agree where to meet. It is a meeting, not a hotel desk.

Airport pickup

Pick airport pickup to drive from arrival, using the meeting instructions. Airport prices shown exclude delivery to Le Morne.

Return time and place

Agree when and where the car goes back. If you change either handover, check the quote again.

If delivery starts later in your stay, you need your own transfer from the airport. Keep your phone, with country code, switched on from the day before pickup until you return the car. At the airport, follow the meeting point on your voucher.

Which payments should you prepare?

The rental price and the deposit are separate. The two delivered cars hold a deposit; most of the airport cars shown have none.

You pay 15 to 20% online when you book and the rest to the company at pickup. The deposit is separate, and your advance does not count towards it.

Check which payment methods the car accepts for the rent and for the deposit; they can differ. If a credit card is required, bring the main driver’s own physical card with embossed details. Debit works only where the booking says so.

Your booking and voucher show when the deposit is released. There is no set number of days that applies to every car.

How long is the drive to Le Morne village?

Mauritius Airport to Le Morne village is 48.9 km, about an hour on clear roads. Every drive below starts at the airport.

The route from the airport runs on the B8, A9, B10 and B9. Times leave out pickup, traffic and stops, so allow time to check the car and load your bags first.

Coming from Grand Baie instead, Le Morne village is about 70.4 km and an hour and fifteen minutes, down the west side via the A3 and B9.

Check there is a paved road right up to your hotel. The village time does not cover every entrance, and mountain tracks are off limits. Flic en Flac is closer to the airport, at about 45 minutes.

Road access around the south-west

You may drive on paved public roads only. An SUV or family car does not make an unpaved track allowed.

  • Le Morne village and Le Morne Brabant mountain are different places. The village drive time helps you plan arrival; it is not a route to the summit.
  • Southern B-roads are slower. Add time for delays and the last stretch to your address before you set a pickup or return time.
  • Ask your hotel about guest parking before delivery. Delivery does not reserve a space or mean parking is free.

Fuel, parking and fines are yours to pay, on top of the rent. A no-deposit car does not change that.

Need the car longer? Ask before the rental ends and wait for the company to confirm the new return time.

Road rules and weather restrictions

Mauritius drives on the left, and traffic from the right has priority at roundabouts. Check road signs and the weather before a long drive.

Keep to the speed limit

Cars may do 60 km/h on B roads, 80 on A roads and 110 on motorways. Other roads are lower, and signed limits always apply.

No phone while driving

You cannot use a phone while driving, even hands-free. Stop somewhere safe first, including to call the company about your rental.

Watch for unlit road users

Expect slow motorbikes without lights, plus people walking or cycling, even on motorways and after dark. Clear-road times do not allow for them.

Keep emergency numbers

Tourist police are at La Gaulette Police Station. Call 999 or 112 for police, 114 for an ambulance and 115 for fire. Save the company’s number for car problems.

Do not drive in floods or in a cyclone of category three or higher. Damage then is not covered, whatever insurance you choose.

A Class III cyclone warning is a different scale from cyclone category three. After a Class III warning the airport closes within three hours, and driving is forbidden once those three hours pass. Tell the company if this affects your handover.

Airport-to-Le Morne return arrangements

Some airport bookings can end at your Le Morne address. Search that one-way trip before you pay, so the quote covers both handovers.

Choose your return address

Agree your Le Morne return address, car check and time.

Check the one-way price

Check the airport-to-hotel total; delivered round-trip prices differ.

Changes to the address or time need the company’s agreement. Starting in Le Morne and returning at the airport is a separate search, with its own price and availability.

Le Morne rental prices by month

Each month’s price is for a week starting on the 15th. Use it as a guide, then check the car and handovers for your dates.

N/A means no car was quoted for that month.

Enter your real pickup and return hours as well as dates. The minimum charge is 24 hours, and part of another day costs a full extra day.

Cyclone season usually runs November to May. The no-driving rule in floods and severe cyclones applies whatever the price. Check official warnings and contact the company if weather affects your handover.

Seats and equipment for the whole party

The delivered cars seat five or seven. Match seats, luggage and child seats to your group, including the drive back to the airport.

Luggage with every seat used

Ask how much luggage fits with all the seats you need in use. Seven seats does not mean room for seven people’s cases.

Arrange child equipment

Add the child seats you need from the car’s extras. Check the seat and how it is fitted at handover, even before a short drive.

Confirm shared driving

Get every extra driver approved before they drive. Check their age and experience against the car’s rules; a licence alone is not enough.

Read the model promise

See whether you get the exact model or one “or similar”. Tell the company before paying about any seats or equipment you must have.

Protection and security on the chosen car

Both delivered cars hold a deposit, but the deposit is not your full damage liability. Check the cover options and what they exclude before upgrading.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Check both amounts. The deposit at pickup and your bill after an accident can differ. A lower deposit after an upgrade does not mean you owe nothing.

Standard exclusions. Wheels, windscreen, underside and interior are not covered as standard. An upgrade changes only what its own terms say.

Report any incident. Call the company straight away and get a police report, unless the company agrees otherwise. Skip this and you lose cover and pay the cost.

Stay within the rules. Vandalism or neglect voids cover. Driving in floods or a cyclone of category three or higher is not allowed, and damage then is not covered.

Check the final deposit and liability on your car. Travel insurance does not replace calling the company after an incident, whatever your cover level.

Which licence and payment documents are needed?

Bring your original national licence in Latin letters, valid for every rental day. Copies and digital licences are not accepted.

Driving permit

For a licence valid only at home, an IDP is strongly advised. Carry it with your licence and show it when asked.

Age and experience

Check the car’s age and experience rules before you pay. Similar models can differ, and the company can refuse pickup if you do not qualify.

A card for the deposit must be the main driver’s own physical card. A debit card is fine only where both the booking and voucher accept it.

Prepare for the final vehicle inspection

Return the car with the same fuel and clean enough to inspect. If dirt stops the check, you pay for washing.

Same fuel level

  • Bring the car back with the fuel level you got. Missing fuel is charged at the company’s rate, and extra fuel is not refunded.

Clean enough to check

  • The company must be able to see the car’s condition. If heavy dirt stops that, you pay for the wash.

Plan your last day around the agreed return time, with room to unload and for the check. A later flight does not move your agreed return time.

A rental confined to Mauritius

The car cannot leave Mauritius. Return it here before you travel on to another country.

A one-way rental only changes where you return the car in Mauritius. Extra cover does not allow travel abroad either.

Changing the booking or cancelling the trip

Check your cancellation deadline before changing dates or cars. If your booking has the short-notice option, its 24-hour deadline applies instead.

Cancellation deadlines

Normal cars: a week before pickup. Convertibles and luxury cars: 30 days. Short-notice option: 24 hours. Cancel late, or miss pickup without agreement, and you lose your advance.

Getting a refund

Email support with your voucher to cancel. Refunds are paid within fourteen days of your request, minus 6% of the advance for processing.

To change dates or the car, cancel and book again. To extend a rental already under way, ask the company before it ends; your current booking stands until they agree.

Le Morne rental questions

Are the airport cars delivered to Le Morne?

No. Four of the cars shown are airport pickups, priced for that. Two come delivered to Le Morne, so check the pickup label when you compare prices.

Does the drive time reach the mountain summit?

No. The drive of about an hour from the airport ends at Le Morne village. It is not a route to the summit, and unpaved tracks are not allowed.

Can I rent the car for a few hours?

The minimum charge is 24 hours, even for shorter use, and part of another day costs a full extra day. Enter your real pickup and return times to see the price.

What if my flight changes the delivery time?

Contact the company through your booking confirmation before the handover time. A missed handover you did not arrange counts as a late cancellation.

Can a small pet travel with us?

Yes, small pets are allowed if they stay in a carrier for every drive, even short ones near your hotel.
