Car hire at Izmir Airport

Rental cars at Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), each showing the whole week’s price, the deposit and the card rule before you book.

Cheap car rental at Izmir Airport

Companies often bring the car to the airport from a yard elsewhere. The cost of that trip is folded into each weekly total below.

Choosing a class for the Aegean coast

Every class price is its cheapest car on the dates used for the deals. The middle of the range is far higher, over €106 a day, because most cars are delivered from elsewhere at a cost.

A small economy car is easiest in city traffic; an SUV or estate suits luggage for the coast.

Rental rules do not change between cities: what applies here applies across Turkey.

How do you find your car at Izmir Airport?

Through the voucher. It gives the meeting point and the company’s phone number, so you never need to look for a rental desk.

Know the instructions

Read the meeting details before you travel and save them offline, along with the company’s number.

Tell them you landed

Message the company on the voucher’s number once you land, above all if the flight is late.

Sign after the check

Look over the car with the company, note any marks on the form and only then sign and drive away.

Cars handed over at the airport are often driven in for you, which can carry a charge. Every price shown already counts it.

Izmir Airport guide: terminals, parking and the return

Parking and the return

  • Return pointIn your voucher

  • Domestic terminal TAV, since 2012.
  • Car park about 5,360 spaces.

Driving away from Izmir Airport

  1. Into the city Konak, in central Izmir, is about 20 minutes away.
  2. Tolled motorways The İzmir-Aydın and İzmir-Çeşme motorways use HGS tolls.
  3. Lane discipline Do not stay in the far left lane for long stretches.
How tolls are paid Passes recorded on the car come off your deposit, with an admin charge on top.

Collecting and returning your car

  1. Check the terminal Domestic and international flights use different terminals.
  2. Meeting point It is set out in the voucher, with the number to call.
  3. On the last day return the car at the agreed point, then head to departures.
Late or very early flight? Use your real times in the search, so any charge for a handover outside working hours is priced in.

Is a credit card needed for car rental at Izmir Airport?

Only on some cars: others need no credit card, and some have no deposit. Both rules are on the car, so read them before you choose.

A required credit card has to be physical, embossed and in the main driver’s name, and you bring it to the handover. See cars in Turkey that need no credit card for other ways to pay.

The amount taken online is 15 to 20% of the rent. The remaining rent and any delivery charge go to the company at pickup.

Fuel, fines and tolls are payable even on a car without a deposit. Car rental in Turkey with no deposit shows where such cars are offered.

Motorways, tolls and rules around Izmir

Traffic drives on the right. Motorway limits for cars run from 120 to 140 km/h depending on the road, as signed.

Other limits

Towns are 50 km/h, two-way country roads 90 and divided roads 110, unless signs show something else.

Hands-free only

You may not hold a phone at the wheel. Use a mount and set directions while parked.

Equipment

Turkish rules say a car must carry two warning triangles and a fire extinguisher. Check they are in the car before you leave.

Emergency number

Ring 112 for any emergency. For damage, call the company straight after and ask about a police report.

Stay on sealed roads

Only paved public roads are allowed, so a dirt road to a beach or a village counts as off limits, however good it looks.

Within Turkey only

The car may not be driven out of Turkey, so it stays behind on a trip to the Greek islands, with no extra that lifts the rule.

Dropping the car at Bodrum Airport

Heading south, some Izmir Airport cars can be handed back at Milas-Bodrum Airport. Search with that airport as the return to see the charge.

Return airport

Choose Milas-Bodrum Airport itself, not Bodrum town. The one-way charge is inside each total.

Meeting at the end

Get the handback instructions for the far airport from the company before the final day.

Changing the return

Any new drop-off place must be agreed with the company first. Never leave the car anywhere else.

One-way hires from here to Bodrum Airport make a coast trip without driving back north.

Izmir Airport prices across the year

Lowest day rate for a week picked up on the 15th of each month and returned at the airport. Shows the pattern, not your price.

N/A: no cars are listed yet for that month.

Charging is by 24-hour period, so an extra half day costs a whole one.

Travelling with family or a group

Settle seats and drivers at booking time, as the airport handover is not the moment to change them.

Sharing the driving

Each extra driver goes on the contract as an extra, where the car offers it. The car shows the fee.

Child restraints

Baby seats, child seats and boosters are offered on some cars. Book them and check the fit yourself.

Big groups

People carriers with up to nine seats can be booked. Count bags as well as people.

A small pet

Allowed if it stays in its carrier for the whole trip. Bigger animals cannot travel.
