Car hire in Sliema

Have your rental car brought to your door in Sliema or St Julian’s, with no delivery fee, no credit card required and cover levels visible upfront.

Sliema car rental deals with delivery

No delivery fee on these cars. Look at gearbox, seats and deposit, then add your address and dates to see the real price.

Choose the transmission and passenger layout

An automatic is available, but most cars here are manual. Seat counts are in the passenger section below.

Sliema and St Julian’s show the same delivered cars. Tell the company exactly where you are staying.

The company may supply a comparable model, so check boot space and must-have features first.

How is a Sliema delivery arranged?

Tell the company where you are staying and agree a time. It is delivery to you, not a town office you walk into.

Delivered to you

Share the full Sliema address with entrance directions, and agree a spot where the driver can meet you.

St Julian’s delivery

Staying in St Julian’s? Enter that address. Let the company know if you move; the same cars cover both towns.

Airport pickup

Need the car at the airport? Pick an airport start and follow the instructions for that booking.

Save the company’s number in case your flight into Malta Airport is late. Add your country code and keep that phone switched on throughout the hire and the day before it.

On delivery, look over the fuel, the bodywork and any extras, then agree the return. Leaving keys at hotel reception is not allowed unless agreed.

With delivery, the car is brought to your Sliema or St Julian’s address, so the rental starts where you are staying. Car rental in Valletta works the same way, with the car delivered to your address.

What card and deposit conditions apply?

Some delivered cars let a debit card cover the deposit, but a deposit still applies. Check card rules and balance payment.

Deposits on some cars go on credit or debit, never cash. The remaining rent can be paid by cash or card.

Debit cards must be physical, embossed and in the main driver’s own name; a digital wallet copy is not enough.

Booking online takes 15 to 20% of the hire, and the rest is due on delivery. The deposit comes on top, so find out how it is released.

How far are the towns from Malta Airport (MLA)?

Sliema is about 9.2 km and 15 minutes from the airport, St Julian’s about 9.6 km and the same time.

Times run to the town, not your hotel door, and leave out traffic and handover time. Car rental in Mellieħa means a longer airport drive, about 30 minutes.

The Ċirkewwa ferry terminal is 24.1 km and about 35 minutes from Sliema. Waiting and sailing time are extra, and taking the car aboard still needs the company’s OK.

For day trips, time the drive from where you are staying rather than from the airport. Some delivered cars also reach Qawra and Buġibba.

Parking and visits to restricted areas

Check parking with your hotel before the car arrives. Delivery does not include a space to leave it.

  • Agree the meeting entrance and a legal place to leave the car. Your hotel’s rules decide parking, not the delivery booking.
  • Visiting Valletta? Its access zone charges on weekdays, 08:00 to 18:00, and a rental gets no exemption. Ask how the company handles charges sent to the owner.
  • The zone exempts electric cars, hybrids and some afternoon entries. Check your car and times; an exemption is not a parking right.
  • Mdina’s walled streets are closed to visitor cars. Leave the car outside and use a public road to get there.

You cover fuel, parking and penalties. Drive on paved public roads only, the lane to your hotel included. Malta drives on the left, and some Malta car rental listings are marked left-hand drive, so check the car’s details.

Driving beyond Sliema and St Julian’s

Traffic keeps left, yet some cars here are left-hand drive. Check which side your steering wheel is on.

Observe the local speed ceiling

Self-drive cars may do 80 km/h outside towns and villages and 50 km/h inside them. Follow any lower signed limit and drive to the traffic.

Leave hand-held devices alone

No holding or using a hand-held phone at the wheel, including in queues. No earphones or headphones in the ear by the window either.

Secure every travelling passenger

Belt everyone in and use suitable child seats. The rule is not just for under-threes, so check older children’s needs before your first drive.

Save the assistance contacts

Ring 112 for an ambulance, police or fire. Save the company’s number too; you must tell them at once after an insured incident.

Expect patchy driving and some rough roads, and build in spare time.

Need the car longer? Ask the company before your booked return.

An airport-locality start or finish

Delivered cars can run Luqa to Sliema or Sliema to Luqa, and airport to St Julian’s. Follow the meeting details on your voucher.

Use the booked places

Check the Luqa meeting point for your delivered car with the company.

Confirm the coastal address

Give your Sliema or St Julian’s address and agree access.

Changing the return address? Agree it with the company, including the check and key handover.

Sliema daily rental prices by month

One bar per month, each a seven-day hire starting on the 15th. N/A shows no price was found; typical prices are not tied to a model.

Enter your full dates and handover times before you book.

The minimum charge is 24 hours. Every extra part day adds a full day’s rate, so handover times matter.

Passenger seats, child equipment and extra drivers

Pick a car that fits your group and bags. Delivered cars come with four, five or seven seats; extras depend on the car.

Check smaller-car capacity

Smaller cars have four or five seats. Make sure everyone fits before you choose.

Plan a larger party

The seven-seater is manual. Look at how much luggage fits with all seats in use, especially for airport cases.

Order suitable child restraints

Pick a seat for each child and check it on delivery. Older children may still need one.

Arrange the additional driver

Get every extra driver approved on the booking and check they qualify. A licence alone does not make someone a permitted driver.

Include extras and extra driver costs in the total, and check the kit against your confirmation.

Security and protection on delivered vehicles

The deposit does not always fall when the excess does. Pick a cover level, then compare both figures on your car.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Both go down: With some cars, Full Coverage trims the deposit and also the excess, compared with Basic and Minimum.

Deposit stays: With others, Full Coverage removes the excess while the deposit is still held.

What standard cover leaves out: Damage to wheels, interior, underside and windscreen. Read your upgrade to see if it adds any.

If something happens: Call the company at once; you also need police paperwork unless they say otherwise. Missing this, neglect or vandalism cancels the cover.

Not every car offers every cover level. Keep the company’s incident number with your voucher, along with your deposit and excess details.

Which originals are required at collection?

Show your own national licence in its original form, printed in Latin script and valid until return. Photocopies and digital licences will not do.

An additional permit if needed

Licence for home use only? Bring an International Driving Permit as well, which is strongly advised, and show it when the company asks.

Check each driver’s eligibility

Some cars need one year’s licence at 21, others two. Look up the rules for your exact car before booking.

Bring your deposit card with your licence. An accepted online payment is no proof that card suits the deposit.

Fuel and the final return appointment

Leave time for the car check when you return. Confirm the meeting point and time so the company can inspect it once you unload.

Use the starting fuel record

  • Return it with the fuel level it had at the start. Missing fuel is charged at company rates, and extra fuel is not paid back.

Leave inspection possible

  • Keep the car clean enough to inspect. If dirt gets in the way, you pay for a wash, so leave time for the check.

Fuel, fines and parking costs in Malta are down to you.

National borders and a proposed Gozo visit

The rental cannot leave the country. Ask the company before you take the car to Gozo; the rental terms do not cover the ferry.

Ask the company about the ferry and insurance before planning a Gozo drive, and get the answer in the contract. No reply is not a yes.

The Ċirkewwa to Mġarr sailing takes about 25 minutes; the road time to the terminal excludes boarding and queues.

Changing or cancelling the Sliema booking

Look up your booking’s deadline before changing plans. Delivery itself does not give you the 24-hour option; it must be in the booking.

Follow the vehicle’s notice rule

Ordinary hire needs 7 days’ notice, luxury and convertible cars 30 days, or 24 hours if you added the cancellation option. Cancel late or miss pickup and the advance is kept.

Provide the voucher to support

Email support to cancel and attach your voucher. Eligible refunds are paid within 14 days, with 6% of the advance kept for processing.

Switching car or dates means cancelling and booking again. Extending a hire in progress needs the company’s OK first.

Questions about collection and contract terms

Is the same delivery service available in St Julian’s?

Yes, both towns show the same cars. Confirm your own address and time with the company.

Does an automatic always have five seats?

No. Some automatics here seat four, so check seats and gearbox separately on the car you choose.

Can the deposit be paid with cash?

No. Some cars hold the deposit on credit or debit only. Cash can settle the rest of the rent.

Can our small pet travel?

Yes, if it is small and stays in a carrier for every drive, however short.

Can I collect at the airport instead of having the car delivered?

Yes. Choose Malta Airport as the pickup place; your voucher gives the meeting point and the company’s phone number. Airport and delivery offers can differ in cars and price, so compare both.
