Car hire in Mellieħa

Have a car delivered free to your Mellieħa address or pick it up at Malta Airport, with debit-card deposits accepted on some cars and cover options set out upfront.

Mellieħa rental cars with delivery

All the Mellieħa cars shown are manual, with no delivery charge. Compare seats and deposits, then search your dates.

Check manual models and available categories

All the cars shown are manual and seat four or five. Check the luggage space with every seat in use.

Economy is the only class with a Mellieħa price for these dates. If you need an automatic, search for one with Mellieħa delivery; cars elsewhere may not deliver here.

Cars are booked as “or similar”, so check any feature you really need before you book.

Can the car be delivered to your property?

In Mellieħa the car is delivered to your address. Give the company your exact location and agree a time; there is no rental desk at your hotel.

Delivered to you

Give your full address and entrance details, then agree with the company exactly where it will hand over the car.

Delivery time changes

If your plans or flight change, call the company. Save its contact details before you travel.

Airport pickup

For airport pickup, book the airport option. A local company hands over the car there, and the voucher says where.

Keep a phone with its country code switched on from the day before delivery until the car goes back. Check fuel, condition and extras at handover, and agree the return; do not leave keys at reception unless agreed.

For an airport booking, your voucher gives the meeting point and the company’s phone number.

What does the card requirement mean?

On some cars a debit card can hold the deposit, but you still need a card and there is still a deposit. The rest is paid separately.

Some cars take a credit or debit card for the deposit. Cash can pay the rest of the rental on some cars, but never the deposit.

The main driver must bring the physical card, embossed with their name.

Pay 15 to 20% online when you book and the rest to the company at delivery. Ask when the deposit is released.

How long is the airport drive to Mellieħa?

Mellieħa is about twenty-four kilometres from Malta Airport, around thirty minutes on clear roads. All times below start at the airport.

The Mellieħa time ends in the town, not at your door. Add time for traffic, stops and handover. Staying nearer the airport? Some of the same cars are also delivered in Qawra and Buġibba.

Malta Airport to Ċirkewwa is 27.9 kilometres, about forty minutes. Your company still has to allow the car on the Gozo ferry.

Public-road access and parking plans

Stay on paved public roads, and check where you can park at your accommodation before delivery. Delivery does not include a parking space.

  • Ask your host which entrance and parking spot to use, and check access before the car arrives.
  • Driving into Valletta on a weekday may cost a zone charge. Ask the company how it passes that on.
  • For Mdina, park outside the walls; visitors cannot drive inside.
  • You pay for parking, fuel and traffic fines yourself, on top of the advance and deposit.

Keep to paved roads all the way, even if your sat nav suggests a dirt shortcut; extra cover does not change this.

If you need the car longer, agree an extension with the company first.

Driving a manual rental in northern Malta

Malta drives on the left. The cars shown are all manual, so make sure every driver is happy with a manual.

Keep within the applicable limit

The limit is 80 km/h outside towns and villages and 50 km/h inside them, unless a lower limit is signed.

Do not use hand-held devices

Do not use a hand-held phone at the wheel, even when stopped in traffic, or wear an earphone on the window side.

Prepare belts and child seats

Everyone wears a seat belt, and children need suitable seats, older children as well as babies. Check the seats at handover.

Retain the emergency numbers

For ambulance, police or fire, dial 112. After an accident, also tell the rental company at once.

Some roads are in poor condition and driving standards can be low. Allow extra time and get used to the car’s controls before you set off.

Starting near the airport and returning in town

Some delivered cars can start in Luqa and end in Mellieħa. Choose both places when you search to see the right price.

Check the Luqa meeting

Use the Luqa meeting point and company contact on your voucher.

Arrange the town finish

Confirm your Mellieħa address, entrance and return time.

For Mellieħa to Luqa, search that direction separately; it may not be offered. If you want to end somewhere else, ask the company first. Delivered cars for car rental in Sliema have been offered with a Luqa return.

Mellieħa prices and unavailable months

Typical prices for a week starting on the fifteenth of each month. N/A means no car was quoted that month.

The available models and categories can change with the requested rental week.

You pay for at least 24 hours, and any part of an extra day counts as a full day, so pickup and return times affect the price.

Seats, equipment and the people driving

Most cars shown seat five, and some seat four. Allow for bags and child seats, and add every driver to the booking.

Count the occupied seats

Some cars seat four, others five. Count everyone travelling before you choose.

Discuss the luggage load

Check your cases fit with every seat in use, including for the drive back to the airport.

Select the child equipment

Add a suitable seat for each child from the extras, older children included, and check them at delivery.

Approve any shared driving

Add every extra driver to the booking and check they meet the car’s rules. Holding a licence alone is not enough.

Add extras and extra drivers before comparing full prices, then check the equipment at handover.

Read protection beyond the held amount

The deposit and the damage excess are different amounts. On some cars, Full Coverage removes the excess but still keeps a deposit.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Separate amounts: The deposit is not your full damage liability. Check the excess for the cover you choose.

Full Coverage: On some cars it removes the excess but keeps a deposit. Check each car.

Ordinary exclusions: Standard cover excludes wheels, interior, underside and windscreen. Only an upgrade that says so covers more.

Incident duties: After an accident, call the company at once and get a police report unless agreed otherwise. Skipping this, or deliberate or careless damage, voids your cover.

Each car shows its own cover options. Keep the company’s contact handy even if you have travel insurance.

Which licence and card should you bring?

Bring your original national licence in Latin script, valid until your return date. Digital licences and copies are not accepted.

Bring an accompanying permit

If your licence is valid only at home, bring an IDP as well. Carry both and show the IDP if asked.

Meet the model’s conditions

Some cars accept drivers from twenty-one with two years’ licence. Age and experience rules vary, so check your car.

Bring your deposit card as well as your licence. Paying the advance online does not mean that card is accepted for the deposit.

Fuel and the final vehicle check

Agree where the company will collect the car and allow time for the check. Refuel and unpack before handback.

Restore the starting reading

  • Return the same fuel as at pickup. A shortfall is charged at the company’s rate; extra fuel is not refunded. Leave time to refuel.

Make the condition inspectable

  • The company must be able to check the car at return. If it is too dirty, you pay for washing, so look it over before handback.

Agree any change of return address in Malta with the company.

The Gozo ferry needs separate confirmation

You cannot take the car out of Malta. For a Gozo day, check with the company first, as the ferry is not covered by the rental terms.

Gozo is part of Malta, but get the company’s answer in writing on the ferry and insurance before you book.

The Ċirkewwa to Mġarr ferry takes about twenty-five minutes. Cars can travel on it, but that does not mean your rental may.

If you leave the car on Malta, arrange parking and your own transport. Mellieħa delivery does not include a Gozo handover.

Changing plans before the rental begins

Check your cancellation deadline before you change anything. Town delivery does not give a shorter deadline; only some bookings include one.

Use the applicable notice

Cancel 7 days ahead, or 30 days for luxury and convertible cars; 24 hours where your booking allows it. Late cancellation or a no-show loses the advance.

Request an eligible repayment

Email to cancel with your voucher attached. Refunds due are paid within 14 days, minus 6% of the advance.

To change the car or dates, cancel and book again. To keep the car longer, agree it with the company first.

Mellieħa car hire questions

Are any of the six displayed cars automatic?

No, all six are manual. Search for an automatic with Mellieħa delivery; cars elsewhere may not deliver here.

Does “Not quoted” mean a category is available without charge?

No. “Not quoted” or N/A means no price was shown for that class or month. Search your dates to see what you can book.

Can a debit card replace a credit card?

On some cars, yes. The main driver must bring the physical debit card, embossed with their name. The deposit cannot be paid in cash.

May a small pet come with us?

Only small pets, in a travel carrier, and they must stay in it on every journey.

Can I pick the car up at Malta Airport instead?

Yes. Search with Malta Airport as the pickup place instead of a Mellieħa address. Airport cars and prices differ from the delivered ones, and the voucher then names the company’s meeting place.
