Car rental at Dubai Airport

Book a car for your landing at Dubai International. Local companies hand it over, many cars need no deposit, and the cover shows before you pay.

Cheap car hire deals for a Dubai Airport landing

These six cars are priced for pickup and return at the airport. Look past the daily rate to the deposit and the cover each one starts with.

Saloons, SUVs and seven-seaters at the airport

How do you meet your rental company at Dubai Airport?

The company named on your voucher hands over the car at the meeting point printed there.

Find the meeting point

The company’s name, its phone number and the place to meet are all on your voucher. Save a copy offline before you board.

Share your flight

Send your flight number and terminal to the company. If you land late, message it as soon as you can.

Check the car over

Walk round the car, note any marks and check the fuel level before you sign. Ask how the return works.

The booking is for Dubai International as a whole, not for one terminal. Your voucher shows where to meet.

Some cars include a handover charge for the airport in their price; others have none. The total you see already includes it.

Dubai International guide: terminals, parking and services

Money and phones in the terminals, the car parks and kerb rules, and tips for your first kilometres.

Services in the terminals

  • Cash machines from Emirates NBD for withdrawals.
  • Travelex counters in arrivals at Terminals 1 and 3, and in Terminal 2.
  • A free tourist SIM from du at the immigration counters.
  • Lounges such as Ahlan, in Terminals 1 and 3.
  • Left luggage in Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

Parking and drop-off

  • T1 APremium
  • T1 BEconomy
  • T2 APremium
  • T2 BEconomy
  • T3All levels

Each terminal has its own car parks. Premium is the short walk; Economy costs less and is further away.

Pay with the QR code on your ticket or at a pay station. Salik can also take the fee as you leave.

  • Dropping someone off? Use the drop-off areas on the Departures level, which have a time limit.
  • Collecting a passenger? There is no pick-up area at Arrivals, so use a car park.
  • Persons with Disabilities card holders park free for two hours.

Collecting and returning your car

  1. Tell the company your terminal Your ticket shows Terminal 1, 2 or 3.
  2. Landing at night? Search your real times to see any late charge.
  3. Return the car where your voucher says, then head to Departures.
Need a wheelchair? Book it through your airline before you fly. Porters work in every terminal.

Driving away from Dubai International

  1. Drive on the right as Dubai’s RTA handbook sets out.
  2. Lights on from sunset, and in fog, rain or blowing sand.
  3. Flashing lights behind? A driver may be coming through, not giving way.
Through a Salik gate? There is nothing to pay on the spot. The charge reaches the company, which bills you later.

Do you need a credit card to rent a car at Dubai Airport?

None of the six cars above asks for a credit card, and three have no deposit. Check how the balance is paid on the car you pick.

You pay 15 to 20% of the rental when you book, and the rest to the company at handover. Each car lists the ways it takes that balance.

Want to skip the card entirely? Cars that need no credit card show their payment rules up front.

A deposit comes back 30 days after the return, less any tolls or fines; to avoid one altogether, choose from the cars with no deposit.

Ras Al Khaimah is 91.6 km away, about 1 h 15 min. Dubai’s other airport, Al Maktoum, is 64.5 km away, about 55 minutes.

The Zayed Grand Mosque is in Abu Dhabi. A return trip there is over 280 km, so check the car’s daily kilometre allowance first.

Settling in on Dubai’s fast multi-lane roads

Get to know the car while it is still parked, then pull out when you are ready.

Use the lanes properly

On highways the left lanes are only for overtaking. Keep at least three seconds behind the car in front.

Read every speed sign

Limits are set road by road and change on some streets. Follow the posted sign, and watch for a minimum speed.

Belts for everyone

The driver and every passenger must wear a seat belt. Using a phone while driving is an offence.

Know the emergency numbers

Police are on 999 and ambulance on 998. After any damage, call the company and ask for a police report.

Paved public roads only: dunes and desert tracks are off limits in every car, whatever its size or cover.

Salik toll gates

Dubai’s toll gates have no booths. Each pass is read automatically and billed to the car’s owner.

The company pays the Salik charges and claims them back from you, with an admin cost, often from the deposit. In Abu Dhabi, Darb gates take the place of Salik. Fuel, parking and fines are yours to pay too.

Can you drop the car at Abu Dhabi Airport instead?

On some cars, pickup here and return at Zayed International in Abu Dhabi both work. Enter both airports when you search to see the full one-way total.

Pick both airports

Set the pickup at Dubai and the return at Zayed International before you compare prices.

Ask where to return

Get the return meeting point from the company before the day you fly out.

Agree any change

A new return place or time needs the company’s approval and a fresh price.

The drive to Abu Dhabi Airport is about 128 km; allow about 1 h 45 min on a clear road before you hand back the car.

Oman is off limits in this car

A rental from Dubai Airport cannot cross any border. For a trip to Oman, book a separate car on that side.

Daily prices month by month from Dubai Airport

Every bar stands for a week-long rental picked up and dropped at the airport, as a typical daily figure. It is a guide, not a fixed rate.

N/A means no airport price exists yet for that month.

Prices include any airport handover charge. A different pickup time, extra or cover level can change the total.

The shortest hire is 24 hours, and any extra part of a day costs a full day. Ask the company before the end if you want longer.

Seats, bags and extra drivers for a family arrival

Before you pay, check the seat count, the luggage space and who will drive. A long flight is no time to find a car too small.

Count the seats

Seven- and eight-seat cars are on offer here. With every seat in use, the boot can be small, so check your bags fit.

Book child seats

Add child seats as extras when you book. Ask the company to fit them, then test each one yourself.

Name every driver

Anyone else driving goes on the booking before pickup, and each must meet that car’s age and licence rules.

Watch the kilometres

Many cars carry a daily kilometre limit. Count trips to other emirates before choosing; the extra-kilometre charge shows on the car.

What does car hire insurance cover at Dubai Airport?

Cover starts at a different level on each car. Read the deposit and the excess together, as they are separate amounts.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Basic with no deposit. The Pegas, and the Seltos and Captiva also offered here, start with Basic cover and no deposit, but each still has an excess if the car is damaged.

Minimum on two cars. The Kia Sonet and Hyundai i10 start by covering only damage to others. Their paid upgrade adds damage cover but still leaves an excess.

Plus on the MG 3. The MG 3 starts with Basic, a deposit and an excess. Paying for Plus brings both down to nothing.

Gaps in standard cover. Wheels, the underside, the windscreen and the interior are not covered. Deliberate damage or neglect voids the cover.

A car hire excess still applies on the no-deposit cars above, so no deposit does not mean no excess.

Licence and IDP for every driver

Every driver needs their own national licence plus an International Driving Permit, each valid until at least the return date. Copies and digital licences are refused.

Carry the permit

The rental rules ask for an International Driving Permit alongside your licence, so get one before you travel.

Age and experience

Minimum age and years behind the wheel vary by car, even between similar models, and a driver who falls short can be refused.

UK drivers need the 1968 type of International Driving Permit for the UAE.

Handing the car back before your flight

Leave time for the check and the fuel before check-in. Return the car where your voucher says.

Same fuel level

  • Refill to the level shown at pickup. Any gap is billed at the company’s own price, and a fuller tank earns no refund.

Clean enough to check

  • If the car is too dirty to inspect, you pay for washing. Allow a few minutes to tidy it first.

Want the car for longer? Ask the company before the booked return time.

Changing dates or cancelling

There is no edit button: a new car or new dates means a fresh booking.

Notice you need to give

Ordinary cars need a week’s notice, and luxury cars and convertibles need 30 days. The short-notice option cuts it to 24 hours.

How the refund works

Email support with your voucher. The advance comes back within fourteen days, less 6%. A late cancellation or a missed pickup loses it.

Dubai Airport car rental questions

Can I collect a car if I land at Terminal 3?

Yes. Pickup is booked for the airport, not a terminal. Tell the company you land at Terminal 3 and follow the meeting point on your voucher.

Is cheap car hire at Dubai Airport possible with no deposit?

Yes, three of the six cars above have no deposit. They still have an excess, and tolls and fines remain yours to pay.

Can I pick up a car in the middle of the night?

Yes, cars can be collected in the small hours. Some may add an out-of-hours charge, which shows when you search your real times.

Do Salik tolls cost extra?

Yes. Tolls are not in the rental price. The company pays each gate and recovers the cost from you after the hire, with an admin fee.

Can an SUV go into the desert?

No. All rental cars must stay on paved public roads. Book a desert trip with a tour company instead.
