SUVs, premium cars and people carriers

Economy cars are the smallest group here; premium models, SUVs and vans make up far more of the choice. The tiles show a typical day rate for a week’s hire.

Ras Al Khaimah follows the rental rules for the whole of the UAE, from the documents to the roads you may use.

How is the car handed over in Ras Al Khaimah?

Every car is delivered to the address you give, with a delivery charge already in the price. The voucher gives the company’s phone number.

Delivery to your door

Type the hotel, resort or villa address when booking. The delivery charge is part of the price you compare, so the delivery adds nothing on the day.

Landing at Dubai International

You can also collect at Dubai’s main airport and drive up: Ras Al Khaimah is about an hour and a quarter north on the E311, before traffic.

Meeting the company

The voucher gives the meeting point and the company’s phone number. Keep your booking number reachable, with its country code, from the day before.

Ras Al Khaimah Airport is listed as a handover place, but no car is offered there, so plan on delivery.

Is there a deposit on a Ras Al Khaimah rental?

Many cars here have none, and none asks for a credit card. Each offer sets its own terms.

Where there is a deposit, it is returned 30 days after the rental ends, less any tolls or fines that reach the company in that time.

How the deposit is paid varies by car, so look through the cars in the UAE that need no credit card before you choose.

Or start from the cars with no deposit and narrow the list to Ras Al Khaimah.

How long is the drive to Dubai?

Downtown Dubai is about an hour and a half south on the E311, before traffic. All six drives start in Ras Al Khaimah city.

Longer days out from Ras Al Khaimah: Al Ain, about 2 h 30 min.

Fujairah is on the east coast, reached on the E18 and E89. Abu Dhabi, timed to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, is a long day there and back, so watch the kilometre limit.

Tolls, parking and fuel on the way

Fuel, parking, tolls and fines are paid by the renter. Driving south into Dubai can take you through Salik toll gates.

  • Salik tolls in Dubai go to the rental company, which recovers them from you; where there is a deposit, they come out of it with an administration cost.
  • Abu Dhabi has its own toll system, Darb, handled the same way on a rental car.

Parking rules and prices differ from one emirate to the next, so check the signs where you stop.

Traffic rules across the emirates

Seat belts

Belts are compulsory for the driver and every passenger. Children under 10 or under 145 cm ride in the back, and under-fours in a child seat.

Zero alcohol

Any alcohol in your blood while driving is illegal, and it is likely to void the insurance. There is no safe amount.

Paved roads only

The rental allows paved public roads only. Wadi beds, sand and unmade mountain tracks are not allowed.

Emergencies

Police 999, ambulance 998, fire 997. After an accident, call the police and the rental company at once, and stay until the police arrive.

No trips into Oman

A rental car cannot cross any border from the UAE, and there is no cross-border option to buy.

One-way rentals into Oman are not offered either; for Oman, rent a separate car with car hire in Oman.

Can you drop the car off in Dubai?

Yes, and in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi as well. Set the return city when you search; every one-way here includes a drop-off charge in the price.

  • In Dubai the car can go back at a company office, the Al Jaddaf car park or an address.

Some Abu Dhabi returns can be made at Zayed International Airport, handy for a flight home. Agree any later change of return place with the company first.

Month-by-month daily rates

Each bar shows a typical daily price for a week-long hire that starts on the 15th, delivery charge included.

Week-long Ras Al Khaimah rentals from the 15th; N/A bars mark months without prices.

From April the choice shrinks, so those months rest on fewer cars. Price your own dates closer to the trip.

A rental day lasts 24 hours; a return a few hours late is charged as another day.

Kilometre limits, seats and second drivers

Daily limits

Almost every car here carries a daily kilometre limit. The offer shows it with the charge per extra kilometre, so plan longer drives around it.

Seats and luggage

Choices run from two-seaters to cars with nine seats or more. Check the boot as well as the seats.

Children

Child seats and boosters are listed as extras; the offer shows which the car has. Add the right one at booking.

Sharing the driving

A second driver is an extra where the car allows it, priced on the offer. They need their own IDP and must meet the age rules.

Car hire cover and excess

The cover levels on offer, and the deposit at each one, are shown per car. Read them together.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

What you can choose. Up to four levels, from Minimum to Full Coverage Plus, depending on the car.

Standard exclusions. Standard insurance does not reach the wheels, the underside, the windscreen or the cabin.

When cover is void. Deliberate damage or neglect cancels the insurance at every level.

Reporting an accident. An insured event means calling the company right away and getting police paperwork, unless the company waives it; without that the cover can fall away.

The deposit and what the excess covers can both change from one level to the next.

Licence and IDP rules for drivers

Drivers carry their home licence and an International Driving Permit, each still valid on the return day; scans and app licences are refused.

International Driving Permit

The rental conditions require an IDP for every driver, so get one before you travel. UK photocard holders bring one too.

Minimum age

Minimum age and driving years are fixed car by car, so two similar SUVs may differ. Check before paying.

The voucher lists what to show at the handover; keep it with your passport.

Returning the car fuelled and clean

Fuel

  • Hand it back showing the fuel it arrived with; any gap is billed at the company’s rate.

Cleaning

  • If sand or dirt prevents an inspection, the wash is charged to you.

Need it for longer? Ask the company in advance, before the booked return.

Cancelling or rebooking

Changes are made by cancelling and booking again, so check your deadline before you do.

Notice needed

Ordinary cars need a week of notice and luxury cars or convertibles 30 days, or just a day with the short-notice option. Cancel late, or miss the delivery, and the advance is lost.

The refund

Email customer support with the voucher attached. Repayment lands within two weeks, with 6% of the advance held back as the payment fee.
