Faro Airport pickup and returnTiles give the cheapest day rate per class for the week shown above. The lowest prices all need a credit card and a deposit of at least €1,900, and half of all offers here cost more than €35 a day. Seat counts run from four up to nine, so groups and golf trips have room.
Car hire works the same way at all four airports in Portugal: the deposit, card rule and cover are shown on each car.
Cars booked here are handed over by local companies. Your voucher, not a desk sign in the hall, tells you where to go.
The voucher gives the meeting point and the company’s phone number. Save both offline in case your phone has no data on landing.
Some companies take renters to the car by shuttle bus. If yours does, the voucher explains how to find it after arrivals.
Photograph the fuel gauge and any marks, and check that the child seats you booked are fitted before leaving.
The rental desks in the terminal belong to other companies and are not where these cars are handed over.
A few cars add an airport handover charge, and when they do it is already inside the total you see. Most add nothing.
What you will find in the terminal, where to stop or park, and what to know on the roads around the airport.
The airport’s own car parks are the only ones inside the airport grounds. P4 can be booked online.
Online bookings need at least six hours’ notice.
For many cars, yes. Others accept a debit card for the deposit, and the car says which before you book.
Bring the main driver’s own physical card with raised, embossed numbers. A debit card works only where the car and voucher allow it, and the deposit still goes on a card, not in cash.
Some companies take the balance in cash or by card, others by card only. Your voucher shows which.
Albufeira is 49 kilometres west, about 55 minutes on clear roads. Every time below starts at the airport and leaves out the handover and stops.

The town of Faro is close, yet its streets make the trip slower than the distance suggests. Vilamoura times follow the EN125 rather than the motorway.
Going east, Vila Real de Santo António on the Spanish border is 69 kilometres away, about 1 h 15 min.
Portugal drives on the right. Give yourself a few minutes with the controls before joining airport traffic.
At junctions without signs, traffic coming from your right goes first. Signs and markings take priority over this rule.
The usual limits are 50 km/h in towns, 90 on other roads and 120 on motorways, unless signs say otherwise.
The legal limit is 0.5 g/l of blood alcohol, and 0.2 g/l for drivers in their first three years.
Keep your passport or identity card with you while driving. For any emergency, the number to call is 112.
Holding a phone while driving is not allowed. A hands-free set with one earpiece or a loudspeaker is fine.
Portuguese law asks for a warning triangle and a reflective vest in the car. Check where they are kept before you set off.
The A22 along the Algarve coast is toll-free on the national road operator’s toll map. The A2 north towards Lisbon has toll booths.
On the A2 you collect a ticket at the entry and pay by cash or card at the exit. Tolls are always yours to pay.
Some companies charge for a toll device, hold a separate deposit for tolls or ask for card details. That cost is not in the booking price, so ask at the handover.
Some cars list a cross-border option with its fee. Add it and tell the company before the trip so it can prepare the papers.
Seville is about two hours forty-five minutes by road, plus any wait at the border. Without the option, keep the car in Portugal.
Yes, on some cars. Enter Lisbon Airport as the return place and the total includes the one-way cost.
Pick the Lisbon Airport return place, not a city address. The price changes with the return, so check the new total.
The one-way cost is often built into the rental price rather than shown as a fee, so compare totals, not daily rates.
Some cars can end at Porto Airport instead. Ask the company how the handback works there before you set off north.
Lisbon’s centre is about three and a half hours from Faro Airport by the A2, so plan fuel and a rest stop on top of the drive.
Each bar is the lowest daily price for seven days from the 15th, with the car taken and returned at Faro Airport.
N/A: no car was listed for that month.
Settle drivers, child seats and space before you pay, not at the car.
Anyone else who will drive must be named in the contract and meet the car’s age and licence rules. It is free on some cars.
Children under 12 and under 135 cm need a seat that suits their size. Add one to the booking and check it at pickup.
Golf bags and big cases take space fast. Check the boot with every seat in use, or choose a seven or nine-seater.
Only small pets may travel, and they must stay in a travel carrier for the whole trip, not loose on a seat.
The starting cover differs from car to car, and paying for more does not always remove the excess. Compare both before you choose.
Full Coverage from the start. Some low-deposit cars here come with Full Coverage at no extra charge and no excess. A small deposit is still held.
Basic on many cars. Many start with Basic (CDW), which leaves a large excess and a deposit that can run into thousands.
Paid upgrades vary. On some cars Full Coverage cuts the deposit to a few hundred euros and removes the excess. On others the deposit falls but the excess stays.
No upgrade at all. A few cars offer only Minimum and Basic, so there is no higher level to add when you book.
Standard cover leaves out the wheels, undercarriage, windscreen and interior, and what the excess covers changes from one level to the next.
Neglect or deliberate vandalism voids the insurance. After an accident, tell the company at once and get a police report unless it agrees otherwise.
You need your original licence, in Latin letters, valid until the day the car goes back. Copies and phone licences are refused.
If your licence is only valid in its home country, bring an International Driving Permit as well. It supports the licence, never replaces it.
Each car lists its own minimum age and years with a licence. Similar models can differ, so check the car you choose.
A UK photocard licence is enough for driving in Portugal. A paper-only UK licence needs updating to a photocard, or an IDP.
Leave a few minutes for fuel and a tidy-up before the return inspection.
Fines, fuel and parking are paid by you. Some companies keep the deposit for 21 to 30 days after the return, in case a fine or an unpaid toll arrives.
A new car or new dates means cancelling and booking again.
Cancel seven days ahead for a standard car, thirty for a luxury car or convertible, or 24 hours with the short-notice option. Later, or a no-show, loses the advance.
Send your voucher with the request. The advance comes back within 14 days, minus a 6% payment fee, in the currency you paid in.
For the Algarve it usually is. The car is ready when you land, and any airport handover charge is already in the total.
Once your flight is fixed. The search shows the cars on offer for your dates; if few appear for a summer week, search again later, as more cars may be added.
Yes. Some cars from Lisbon Airport or Porto Airport can be returned here at Faro Airport. Enter both airports and the one-way cost shows in the total.
Night handovers are possible on many cars, but some charge extra, often at the return. Enter your real flight times so any charge is in the price.
Most have none. A few cap the distance at 200 kilometres a day, and the car shows the cap before you book.
Enter your flight times, choose a car and check its deposit, card rules and cover before you book.
