Lisbon Airport pickup and returnEach class figure is its lowest daily price in the same week as the deals. The lowest prices all need a credit card and a deposit of at least €1,600, and half of all offers here cost more than €56 a day.
A small car is enough for short city trips. For the motorway to the Algarve or the north, a Standard car or an SUV gives more room, and automatics are offered too.
Cars at all four airports in Portugal are compared the same way, by total price, deposit and cover.
A local company hands the car over at the meeting point printed on your voucher, together with its phone number.
Read the voucher before you land. It gives the place to meet and the number to call if you cannot find the company.
Some companies meet you with a shuttle bus, others in person. The voucher says which applies to your car.
Call the company if your flight is delayed, so the handover time can move and the car is not given away.
The rental counters in the terminal serve other firms; they cannot hand over a car booked here.
Most cars have no extra airport handover charge, and where one applies it is already counted in the total.
The two terminals, the services in Terminal 1, where to stop the car and what to expect on the first few kilometres.
P1 serves Departures and P2 Arrivals. Only the airport’s own car parks are inside the airport grounds.
Terminal 2 has no car park of its own.
On some cars. Many still want a credit card for the deposit, so filter the cars before you choose.
The card must be in the main driver’s name and carry raised numbers. A virtual card or a phone wallet does not count.
How the remaining balance is paid varies: some companies take cash too, many only cards. It is listed during booking and on the voucher.
About 30 minutes for 30 kilometres, with no traffic. Add the handover and parking at the other end.

The airport sits inside the city, so the centre of Lisbon at Praça do Comércio is only a short hop.
The routed drives to Óbidos and Nazaré follow the A8; the one to Évora crosses the Vasco da Gama bridge.
Traffic keeps to the right, and you overtake on the left.
Unless signed otherwise: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on other roads, 100 km/h on car-only roads and 120 km/h on motorways.
Driving below 50 km/h on a motorway is not allowed, so a slow car must still keep up with the flow.
Everyone in the car wears a belt. Children under 12 and under 135 cm ride in a seat that fits them.
The general limit is 0.5 g/l. For drivers in the first three years of their licence it drops to 0.2 g/l.
Phones must be hands-free while you drive. In an emergency, dial 112 for police, fire or an ambulance.
The A1, A2, A5, A8, A12 and A16 have toll booths. South of the river, the A33 is electronic only, with no booths at all.
On an electronic-only road a gantry reads the toll device or the number plate. Ask at the handover how your car pays and whether the company charges for its device or holds money for tolls.
A cross-border option appears on some cars, with its fee. Tell the company in advance so the documents are ready.
Badajoz, just over the border, is about two hours thirty minutes from the airport, plus any wait. Keep a car without the option inside Portugal.
Yes, Faro Airport and Porto Airport are both possible on some cars. Choose the airport as the return place to see the price.
Choose the airport place, not the town. A different return changes the total, so look again before paying.
Many companies build the one-way cost into the rental price, so a separate drop fee may not appear at all.
Ask the company where to meet at the other airport and save its number for the day.
Faro is about 3 h 15 min south on the A2, close to Faro Airport.
Going north, Porto’s centre is about three hours thirty minutes on the A1, close to Porto Airport.
Each bar is the lowest daily price for seven days with the car taken and returned at Lisbon Airport.
N/A means no price was found for that month.
Fewer cars are on offer for the summer weeks than for winter so far, so those bars can still move.
Taking the car at 09:00 on Monday and returning it at 15:00 on Tuesday counts as two days, because every started 24 hours is charged.
Check the details for everyone travelling before you book.
Add a second driver to the contract before they drive. They must meet the same age and licence rules as you.
Children travel in the back in a seat for their size. A baby may sit in front only rear-facing, with the airbag off.
People carriers and vans with up to nine seats can be booked. Check the boot with every seat taken.
A small pet can come along in its carrier. It stays inside the carrier for the whole hire, with no exceptions.
Many cars here start with Basic cover, and the upgrade price and effect differ between cars. Check the excess, not only the name.
Basic is the usual start. Basic (CDW) leaves both a deposit and an excess, often in the thousands on larger cars.
Full Coverage resets the figures. On most cars a paid upgrade brings the deposit down to a few hundred euros and the excess to zero.
Not on every van. On some larger cars Full Coverage lowers the deposit yet keeps the full excess, so read both lines.
Some cars start higher. A few low-deposit cars include Full Coverage in the price, with no excess.
Damage to wheels, undercarriage, windscreen or interior is outside standard insurance, and the cover levels differ in how much of the excess they remove.
Cover is lost through neglect or intentional vandalism. If something happens, call the company straight away and ask for a police report.
An original national licence with Latin letters, valid past your return date. Photocopies and digital licences are turned away.
A licence valid only at home should travel with an International Driving Permit. Carry both, as the permit alone is not enough.
There is no single minimum age: each car states its own age and licence years, and similar cars can differ.
UK drivers with a photocard licence can drive in Portugal on it. A paper UK licence must be swapped for a photocard, or backed by an IDP.
The return check covers fuel and condition, so leave time for both before your flight.
Parking, fuel and any fines are yours. A company may hold the deposit for 21 to 30 days after you return the car, to cover fines or tolls that arrive late.
To change dates or swap the car, cancel the booking and make a new one.
Standard cars can be cancelled up to seven days before pickup, luxury cars and convertibles up to thirty, or 24 hours with the short-notice option. After that the advance is lost.
Ask support with your voucher number. You get the advance back within 14 days, less a 6% payment fee, in the original currency.
There is no single return area for these cars. The voucher names the place to hand the car back; from there, allow time to reach your terminal.
For Sintra, the coast or the Algarve, yes: you drive off after landing and avoid a trip back. If you spend the first days in central Lisbon, you can start the hire on the day you leave town and pay only for the days you drive.
For touring beyond the cities, yes, as it lets you reach small towns and beaches on your own timetable. Budget for motorway tolls, fuel and parking, which you pay yourself.
Yes on many cars, but some companies add an out-of-hours charge at both pickup and return. Enter your real times and the charge is in the price.
Yes, both manual and automatic cars are offered. Use the gearbox filter and check the car itself, since a photo does not confirm it.
Set your arrival and departure times, then compare each car’s total, deposit and cover before you book.
