Car hire in Salalah

Pick up at Salalah Airport (SLL) or a city office, or get the car delivered. Some offers come without a deposit or a credit-card requirement; each shows its cover first.

Can I arrange collection at Salalah Airport?

Some office and delivery cars can also be picked up at the airport. Select Salalah Airport as your pickup place, then follow your voucher.

Airport pickup

Your voucher says whether the company meets you in person or sends a transfer. Call the company if unsure.

Office or delivery

Check the office address and time, or give your address for delivery. The price can differ from an airport pickup.

Other pickup places

Al Saadah, Hawana, Dahariz and Al Baleed Resort are also listed. Use one only if your car offers it.

The airport is reached by Ittin Road and the airport flyover. Keep the company’s meeting details and phone number with you when you travel.

Plan the return as carefully as the pickup. Flying home from Salalah Airport? Make sure your booking offers an airport return, and follow your company’s instructions, not the airport’s rental signs.

Will I need a credit card to hire a car in Salalah?

A credit card is required on some Salalah cars and not on others, so check yours. Rent and deposit are paid separately.

No deposit does not mean no card. A no-deposit option may not change the card you need for the rental. Check both on your car and your voucher.

On cars that require one, the main driver shows a physical credit card bearing their own name and raised details. Debit is fine only where the booking permits it.

To book in Salalah you prepay 15 to 20%; the company takes the balance at collection, plus any deposit. Some Salalah cars need no credit card at all.

Some cars have no deposit, while others offer a no-deposit option at extra cost. Neither adds mileage or damage cover, so compare the total and the card rules.

How long are the main drives from Salalah Airport?

These drives start at the airport meeting point and leave out stops and traffic. Check road surface and any province permission separately.

Hawana Salalah is 34.6 kilometres from Salalah Airport, around thirty-five minutes, and Thumrait 75.7 kilometres, roughly seventy-five minutes. Allow longer for weather, traffic and breaks.

Reaching a town by road is not the same as being allowed to return the car there. Any trip beyond the province must be confirmed when you book.

The Wadi Darbat time ends on the paved Darbat road by the waterfalls. Rental cars may use paved public roads only, so do not drive on into the wadi.

Parking and the final Salalah handover

Salalah Airport has paid shaded parking in P1 and P2; the machines take cards and cash in Omani rials. Airport parking is not your rental return.

  • The airport forecourt allows fifteen minutes for pick-up and drop-off. Do not leave the rental car there unattended for its return.
  • For hotel delivery, confirm the entrance and ask about guest parking. A handover address does not give you a parking space.

Check the airport’s parking and access page for current details. Ways to pay there differ from Muscat airport.

On a Salalah rental the renter settles fuel, parking, fines and tolls, deposit or not. Hold on to your receipts.

Build refuelling, unloading and the inspection into the return time. Bring the fuel gauge back to its pickup reading; any deficit is billed and surplus is not refunded. Cars too grubby to inspect are charged for washing.

Khareef conditions and the roads your car may use

Dhofar’s khareef drizzle lasts from late June until mid-September. Drive carefully on wet roads and use fog lights in mist.

Check the weather for the actual day

Check the forecast before a Dhofar drive. Route times assume clear roads, without mist or drizzle.

Stay on permitted surfaced roads

Stick to paved public roads. Neither an SUV nor added cover permits dunes, wadi beds or an unpaved last stretch.

Plan the way back

Keep the drive back on paved public roads too, and leave time to reach the agreed return place before the hire ends.

Journey conditions

Any trip beyond the province needs agreement at booking, and the company can set different prices and terms. Describe your planned route.

Make sure the mileage allowance covers the full trip, there and back. See the khareef weather guidance before you set off.

Finish a Salalah rental in Muscat where offered

Certain cars can run one way from Salalah to Muscat, delivered and collected at city addresses. Agree the province trip and meeting points when booking.

Confirm the arrangement

Check the mileage: the one-way charge does not include unlimited kilometres.

Salalah Airport to Muscat Airport is 1,013.6 km, about 11 h 30 min of driving without stops. For southbound trips, Sultan Said bin Taimour Road via Adam, Haima and Thumrait is recommended, avoiding concession-area roads. Confirm the province trip before driving to Muscat.

What can the monthly Salalah chart tell me?

Bars show week-long Salalah rentals from the 15th, in euros. N/A means there is no price for that month yet, not that the month has no cars.

Week-long rentals from November 2026 to October 2027, shown as daily prices in euros.

The summer khareef weeks have no prices yet, so the chart cannot show summer rates. Search your own dates.

Compare the same rental length and pickup place. An office or delivery price is not an airport price.

Cars, prices and terms can change before you travel, so book from the current results.

Select passenger capacity for the Dhofar stay

Some Salalah cars seat seven. With everyone aboard, make sure the bags still fit.

    Space for the entire party

Tell the company about essential seats and luggage before booking. Check any “or similar” condition so the car suits everyone.

    Driver eligibility at collection

Whoever is named as driver must satisfy the age and experience limits on this car, carry the right documents and, if required, the credit card.

    Choosing the vehicle

Automatics are available; check the gearbox and replacement terms on your car. A bigger car still has the same mileage, route and payment rules.

    Organising the handover

Agree a clear meeting point for the group, separate from hotel check-in, and give the driver time to sign and inspect the car.

Compare Salalah insurance and available cover

The cards explain the four cover levels, but no Salalah car currently has Full Coverage Plus. Compare excess and exclusions on the car you pick.

    Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
    • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
    • Damage to your hire car (not included)
    Basic coverage
    • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
    • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
    • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
    Full Coverage
    • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
    • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
    Full Coverage PlusNot currently offered
    • Full damage cover (included)
    • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Check the levels on your car. Salalah cars reach Full Coverage (Super CDW) at most; Plus is unavailable. Excess and deposit are different things.

What is left out. Underbody, wheels, windscreen and interior damage fall outside standard cover, and Basic CDW does not cover tyres or glass either.

After an accident. Tell the company straight away and get a police report unless it agrees otherwise; missing either step voids your cover.

Stay within the rules. Deliberate damage or neglect voids the cover. Unpaved roads, crossing the border and unagreed trips outside the province are not allowed.

Prepare the licence and payment documents

    Licence at collection

Your original national licence must be in Latin characters and valid all rental days. Copies and e-licences are refused; check age and experience rules.

    Driver and payment documents

Carry an IDP as well if your licence works only in its home country; it is strongly advised. The main driver brings any required card.

Rental hours and keeping the company informed

    Rental period

    • Even a short rental is charged as twenty-four hours, and any extra part-day adds a day. Pick up one morning, return the next afternoon: that is two full days.

    Keep the company informed

    • Ask the company in advance to extend. Add the country code to your booking phone and keep it on from the day before pickup to the end of the rental.

If your arrival or address changes, tell the company in time to rearrange the handover.

    Arrange international travel separately

The car cannot leave Oman. A trip outside the province, once agreed, is still within Oman and does not allow crossing the border.

Hand the car back at an agreed Omani location and plan any trip abroad separately. A Salalah to Muscat booking never lets you continue to the UAE, whatever the class or cover.

Understand the notice needed to cancel

    Notice and conditions

Give a week’s notice to cancel in Salalah; a convertible or luxury car needs thirty days. Booked the cancellation option? Then twenty-four hours’ notice works, with the processing deduction kept.

    Refund and booking changes

Email support with your voucher. Eligible refunds come within 14 days, less 6% for processing. Late or unagreed no-show bookings lose the advance; for new dates, cancel and rebook.

    More Salalah rental questions

Does Salalah have its own rental cars?

Yes. Salalah keeps a separate fleet, overlapping only a little with Muscat. Search Salalah for your dates to find the cars offered there.

What does a car cost in Salalah during the khareef?

Summer weeks have no prices yet, so khareef rates are not known. Run a search for the dates you want.

Can an office-listed car meet me at Salalah Airport?

Some can. Choose Salalah Airport in the search, check any handover charge and follow the meeting details the company confirms. Not every car offers this.

Can I bring a small pet in a Salalah hire car?

Yes. Keep a small pet inside a carrier for each journey; normal cleaning and inspection rules still apply when you return the car.

What should I check before a longer excursion?

Check the route is on paved public roads, the car’s mileage allowance covers it and any province trip is agreed at booking. Include the drive back.
