Vehicle classes for a coastal stay

Where can you collect your car in Bar?

Pick up at the Port of Bar or get delivery to your address. Hotel Princess, Robna Kuca mall and the Railway Station are also listed.

Port of Bar pickup

Choose the Port when you book and follow the meeting instructions. Some offers charge extra for the handover.

Delivered to you

Enter your Bar address and agree a time. Some cars are delivered free; others add a delivery charge.

Station or hotel pickup

You can also pick up at the Railway Station or Hotel Princess, but not every car is offered there.

For delivery, give enough detail for the company to find your property and mention any separate car entrance. Allow time for the paperwork and inspection before you set off.

Your voucher has the company’s phone number. Keep your own phone on, with the country code, from the day before pickup to the end of the rental, and call if your arrival changes.

Bar has no airport. If you want the car as soon as you land, book it at the airport; otherwise travel to Bar and pick it up there.

Can you hire without a deposit in Bar?

Bar has no-deposit cars at the Port and with delivery. Credit cards are optional on the cars shown, and some take a cash deposit.

Some cars have no deposit; others take one in cash, or by credit or debit card. Depending on the car, you pay the rest of the rental in cash or by card, so check both on your offer.

You pay 15 to 20% online when you book. The balance is paid when you pick up the car in Bar, and any deposit is separate.

If your car needs a card, bring a physical card with embossed details in the main driver’s name. A no-deposit car still comes with the usual driver and cover conditions.

How far is Bar from the two airports?

Two airports serve Bar; Kotor and Budva are shown for comparison. Times assume clear roads, so add time for pickup and coastal traffic.

From Podgorica Airport you take the M-2, then the M-1.1 tunnel road to the coast. From Tivat Airport you follow the M-1 coast road past Budva and Petrovac.

From Bar, the coast leads north to Petrovac and Budva and south to Ulcinj, while the Sozina tunnel takes you inland towards the capital.

On your last day, add time for returning the car and for the airport. Agree the return place with the company before you plan when to leave.

Parking and access around your accommodation

Ask your accommodation about parking before the car arrives, and read the signs at any public car park. Pickup or delivery does not include parking.

  • Check whether your accommodation has a space, which entrance to use and when you can come and go.
  • In public car parks, follow the payment and time rules shown there; Budva’s zones and prices do not apply in Bar.

The Port pickup point is not a place to leave the car. Before you return it there, ask the company where to meet and whether to call when you arrive.

Fuel, parking, tolls and fines are yours to pay. If you book a tall van, check the garage entrance height first; tall vans also pay a different toll.

Do not plan your return for the moment your onward travel leaves. The company needs time to receive and check the car.

What should you know about the Sozina tunnel?

The Sozina tunnel links the Podgorica road with Sutomore and the coast towards Bar. Its toll is paid on top of the rental.

Choose the payment lane

Pay the toll in cash or by bank card at the booth. The ENP lanes are for electronic TAG devices, so ask whether your car has one first.

Follow tunnel instructions

Stop when the display tells you to and leave room for emergency vehicles. In the tunnel, never flash your lights, reverse or turn round.

The Sozina connection

The tunnel road runs between Virpazar and Sutomore. It is the quickest way from the capital to the sea, which suits a Bar rental that starts at Podgorica Airport.

Toll vehicle classes

A normal car and a two-axle van over 1.9 metres pay different tolls. You pay the toll yourself; it is not part of the rental price.

If traffic stops you in the tunnel for more than a minute, switch the engine off. Emergency niches have SOS phones, and the weather can change at the tunnel exit.

The open part of the Bar-Boljare motorway runs between Smokovac and Mateševo, beyond the capital towards Kolašin, not from Bar. It has its own toll.

Can an airport rental finish in Bar?

Some Podgorica or Tivat Airport rentals can end in Bar, at the Port or an address. Add both ends when you search.

Port and address returns work differently, so follow the instructions for the one you booked. Leave time for the inspection before any onward travel.

An airport-to-Bar rental does not mean the reverse is offered. To start in Bar and finish elsewhere, search for that route.

Return the car with the same fuel as at pickup. Missing fuel is charged; extra fuel is not refunded. If the car is too dirty to inspect, you pay for cleaning.

Typical daily prices over twelve months

Each bar is a seven-day rental from the 15th, November 2026 to October 2027. September and October show N/A: no price was available.

Typical Bar prices; check your own car, dates and pickup before booking.

Use the chart to compare months, then price your own dates. A shorter rental can change the daily price, even for the same car and pickup point.

Summer traffic on the coast can slow you down, especially towards Ulcinj, so allow extra time on busy days.

A winter trip inland can need extra equipment. Some cars offer a Winter Pack; ask the company what your route needs.

Automatic cars and family equipment

For a family, compare seats, luggage space, gearbox and child seats. Automatic cars can be delivered in Bar, and some cars offer an extra driver.

Automatic delivery

Some delivered cars in Bar are automatic. Check the gearbox, seats and luggage space on your offer before you book.

Equipment and drivers

Some cars offer baby seats, child seats, boosters and an extra driver. Book what you need, and make sure every driver is on the agreement.

Reserve child seats

Children up to five need a suitable child seat, and under-twelves cannot sit in the front. Check the seat fits before you set off.

Luggage with every seat

Cars with seven to nine seats suit larger groups, but check there is room for your bags with every seat in use.

Car hire insurance for your Bar journey

Every booking includes Minimum cover with TPL. Higher levels depend on the car, so compare the cover and what you would still pay.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Standard cover does not include the windscreen, wheels, underbody or interior. Deliberate damage, vandalism and neglect void the cover at every level.

Some cars have no Plus option, and some offer Theft Protection as a separate extra. Check the options on your car.

On some cars the deposit and your share of damage stay the same at every level. A deposit is not the same as your excess.

After an incident, tell the company straight away and get a police report, unless it agrees otherwise. Skipping this voids your cover. Driving abroad needs separate permission and papers.

Licences and eligibility before collection

Check the driver rules in the Montenegro rental conditions before you book.

Original driving documents

Bring your original licence in Latin script, valid until return; no copies or digital versions. Add an IDP if it is valid at home only.

Check the driver conditions

Some cars accept drivers from 21 to 70; others stop at 65. Expect to need two years with a licence, and check your car’s rules.

Road rules and permitted routes

The main road rules for your trip; the country guide has more for driving beyond the coast.

Conditions for the journey

  • Drive on the right, keep your lights on in daytime and follow the speed limits.
  • Hire cars may only use paved public roads, so check the road to a rural stay or beach before taking a shortcut.

Responsibilities during hire

  • Wear seat belts and use hands-free for calls.
  • Find the warning triangle, vest and first-aid kit at pickup. The emergency number is 112.
  • Young and new drivers face extra national rules, even when the rental accepts them.

Permission before an Albania excursion

The coast road to Albania crosses at Sukobin, beyond Ulcinj, only with permission for your car. Tell the company first so it can arrange papers.

Some neighbouring-country extras exclude Albania and Kosovo, so choose one that names the country you are visiting. Permission to drive abroad does not mean you can return the car there. Allow time for the border queue.

Cancellation and changes to your plans

Standard cancellation needs seven days’ notice, or thirty for luxury cars and convertibles. With the free-cancellation option, you can cancel until the day before.

Cancellation and repayment

Email your voucher with the cancellation request. Refunds reach your original account within fourteen days, minus 6% of what you prepaid.

Amendments and missed pickup

You lose the advance for late changes or cancellation, or if you miss pickup without telling the company. To change a booking, cancel it and book again.

Questions about renting in Bar

Can I start the rental in Sutomore instead?

Yes, Sutomore has its own pickup option. Choose it when you search and check the handover on your offer; a Bar delivery does not cover Sutomore.

Do rental cars in Bar have unlimited mileage?

Some cars in Bar have no mileage limit. Check the allowance on your offer, especially if you plan several long drives inland.

Can I take a small pet in a Bar rental car?

Only small pets, and they must stay in a carrier on every drive. Bring the carrier to pickup.

Can I extend the rental while staying in Bar?

Ask the company before your rental ends; do not just keep the car. Each rental day is 24 hours, and a part day is charged as a full day.

What if the reserved vehicle cannot be supplied?

If a breakdown or force majeure stops the company supplying your car, it must give you one of the same or a better class at the same price and terms. Call the company on your voucher.
