At Zagreb AirportTiles show the cheapest car in each class for the same week as the deals; a typical car here costs about €47 a day, for airport handovers with no extra charge. Not quoted marks a class with no car on offer.
Most of the cheapest deals need a credit card; most cars here need none and cost more a day. Seven-seat cars and automatics are offered too.
A local rental company does, not the airport. The voucher gives the company’s name, its phone number and where to meet.
Keep the voucher where you can open it without data. The meeting point and the company’s number are both on it.
From the day before pickup to the return, keep the phone number you booked with switched on and include its country code.
Walk the car with the agent before signing and get every dent and chip on the form. Then check the fuel and extras.
Each company has its own way of meeting customers, so follow the voucher rather than the brand names in the terminal.
The prices on this page include the airport handover, with no extra charge for a midday pickup.
Terminal services, the public car park and Kiss & Fly, and what to know on the motorways around Zagreb.
One public car park with more than 800 spaces, first come, first served.
It costs €3.80 for an hour and €24 for 12 to 24 hours, then €13 a day.
For some cars, yes. Others accept a debit card for the deposit, and a few need no deposit at all.
Cars with a credit card rule want the main driver’s own embossed card at the handover. Debit counts only where your booking and voucher show it. Many cars in Croatia that need no credit card accept debit for the deposit.
Zero deposit and zero excess are different things: car hire in Croatia with no deposit can still leave an excess on Basic.
Ban Jelačić Square is about half an hour away on clear roads. Plitvice is about two and a half hours, and the Dalmatian coast further.

Closer to the airport: Velika Gorica, about 15 min; Karlovac, about 55 min.
Croatia drives on the right, and signed limits always take priority.
Without other signs, keep to 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h outside them, 110 km/h on expressways and 130 km/h on motorways.
Car drivers may not exceed 0.5 g/kg. Croatian-licensed drivers under 24 must not drink at all, and it is wiser for everyone not to.
A phone may be used while driving only through a hands-free set. Programme the route before setting off.
By law, a car carries a warning triangle, a first-aid kit and a reflective vest to wear beside the road. Ask the company to show you where they are.
The rental conditions permit paved public roads alone, on every car, from the motorway to the smallest village lane.
Forest and farm tracks in the hills around Zagreb are not covered by the rental terms.
Cars that allow it have a cross-border option for EU neighbours, and some a separate one for non-EU neighbours.
Even for these EU neighbours, you need the option on the car and permission from the help desk. The car must come back to Croatia; one-way hire to another country is not offered.
Yes, on cars that offer those airports. A drop-off charge applies on each route and is already in the price you see.
Pick the other airport as the drop-off when you search. The total then includes the drop-off charge for that car.
Find out who takes the car back at the other airport and where, then build the inspection into your timings.
Any change to the return place or time needs the company’s approval first. The car cannot simply be left elsewhere.
For Istria, Pula Airport is the return to choose. Split Airport suits a trip that ends in Dalmatia after the drive down the A1.
One bar per month: the lowest daily rate for a seven-night airport rental beginning on the 15th.
N/A: the airport had no price for that month yet.
Fewer cars are listed so far for the summer months, so those bars can move. Check again when your dates are closer.
Rental runs in 24-hour days, and a part day is charged as a whole one. To extend, ask the company while the rental is still running.
Put every driver and every child seat on the booking before the trip, not at the handover.
Where a car offers a second driver, add it as an extra. Each driver needs to meet that car’s minimum age and licence years.
A child under 150 cm needs a child seat or a booster. Add the right seat for each child when you book the car.
Larger cars and vans are available here. With all seats in use, check there is still room for your luggage.
Only small pets can come, and they must ride in a travel carrier for the whole rental.
The quoted deal cars start on Basic cover. What an upgrade changes depends on the car, so read its figures.
An excess on Basic. With Basic (CDW), you still pay up to the excess if the car is damaged.
Upgrades work differently. On some cars, paid Full Coverage removes the excess; on others it only lowers the deposit and excess.
No deposit is not no excess. Some cars hold no deposit at any level but keep an excess on Basic.
Damage to the wheels, underside, windscreen and interior is outside standard cover. Neglect or deliberate damage makes the insurance invalid. In that case what the excess covers no longer limits your bill.
Bring the licence card itself, printed in Latin script and still in date when you hand the car back. No photocopy or phone app will do.
Some licences count only in the country that issued them. In that case an International Driving Permit is strongly advised, kept with the licence.
Minimum age and driving experience are set car by car and may differ between similar models. Check each driver.
A UK photocard licence is valid for driving in Croatia for up to a year. Holders of the old paper licence may need to update it or carry the right permit.
Allow time for the fuel and condition check before check-in.
Fuel, parking, fines and tolls are the driver’s cost. Some companies hold the deposit for 30 to 45 days after the return and deduct later fines or tolls from it.
There is no edit button: cancel the old booking and make a new one.
Seven days before pickup is the cut-off (thirty for luxury models and convertibles), or 24 hours on bookings with the short-notice option. Miss it and the advance stays with the company.
Write to support with the voucher. The advance is refunded within fourteen days, less a payment fee of 6%.
Yes, on some cars: a Winter Pack is listed as an extra. Ask the company what it contains before you book. Wherever there is snow or ice, the law asks for winter equipment.
Yes on some cars, though a night handover can carry an out-of-hours fee at pickup and at return. Put in the real landing time and the fee appears in the total.
Not on the airport cars shown here: none of them takes the deposit in cash. Check the deposit line for your dates.
Yes, automatics are offered alongside manual cars. Make sure the car you book says automatic, as the photo does not prove it.
Only with a cross-border option for EU neighbours on the car and permission from the help desk. The car must then come back to Croatia.
Type in your arrival and departure times, then weigh up total price, deposit and cover side by side.
