Choose the vehicle size before comparing locations

Which Bangkok collection point fits your arrival?

Choose Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) or Don Mueang Airport (DMK), two separate airports. If you are already in Bangkok, ask for delivery to your address instead.

Suvarnabhumi pickup

Choose this for Suvarnabhumi arrivals and follow the meeting directions on your voucher. Each company meets you differently.

Don Mueang pickup

Choose this for Don Mueang arrivals; a Suvarnabhumi booking will not work there. Confirm your pickup time and keep the company’s number.

Delivered to you

Give your Bangkok address and any entrance directions. Agree the meeting point and compare its price, which differs from airport prices.

At Bangkok Airport (Suvarnabhumi), your voucher gives the meeting point and the company’s phone number. Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang is 53.8 km, about 1 h 15 min before delays. Keep your booking phone, with its country code, working from the day before pickup.

Do you need a credit card to hire a car in Bangkok?

Some Bangkok cars need a credit card and some do not. Check the card rule, the deposit payment methods and how the balance is paid.

A card rule and a cash deposit can go together. A car can need a credit card yet accept a cash deposit. Paying the deposit in cash does not remove the card rule, so check both before you book.

Every car here takes a deposit. A no-deposit car elsewhere in Thailand does not mean Bangkok has one, so use the amount shown on your car.

If a credit card is needed, the main driver brings it, embossed with their name. Debit works only if your voucher accepts it. Pay 15 to 20% online and the rest at pickup. Some cars need none, and the no credit card filter shows them.

How far can you drive from Suvarnabhumi?

Times start at Suvarnabhumi Airport and assume clear roads. Allow extra for Bangkok traffic, rain, stops and toll queues, and agree any trip outside the province when booking.

The Ayutthaya time ends at the temple ruins in the old city. Your hotel may be further than these points. Agree trips to other provinces with the company, and check toll costs and payment yourself.

Budget separately for expressways and parking

The drive from Suvarnabhumi into Bangkok can use toll expressways. Fuel, parking, tolls and fines are extra and yours to pay.

  • Ask the company how tolls are paid on its car. Do not assume a toll tag, account or prepaid package comes with an airport pickup.
  • Ask your hotel about parking and its price, and follow local signs. A delivery to the hotel does not include a parking space.

Tolls can be paid in cash or electronically; follow the lane signs. M-Flow is a barrier-free system, and unpaid tolls can arrive later as invoices. Ask the company who gets these and how to pay. Check the motorway network.

Planning trips beyond Bangkok

A Bangkok car can suit a city stay or an agreed trip elsewhere in Thailand. The rental rules apply to every leg, including mileage and the return time.

Provincial permission

Tell the company about any place outside the pickup province when you book. Permission and fees depend on the company; a route on a map is not its approval.

Mileage allowance

Some Bangkok cars have a daily distance limit and others have none. Check yours against your whole trip, including the airport run, day trips and the return.

Permitted surfaces

Drive on paved public roads only, whatever your sat nav says. Check how to reach a remote hotel by public road before taking a shortcut.

Return appointment

Plan the last day back from your return time, leaving time for fuel, bags and the inspection. A flight change does not extend the rental or move the return place.

Bangkok traffic can make these drives much longer. Allow time for the airport approach and the inspection, and agree any extension before your booking ends.

Where else can a Bangkok rental end?

Some Suvarnabhumi cars can be returned at a Pattaya address, at Don Mueang or at Phuket Airport. Set the return place when you search; any drop-off charge is in the price.

Agree the provinces on your route with the company when you book. Changing the return place later means cancelling and booking again. Some Phuket Airport rentals can end in Bangkok too.

How do Bangkok rental prices change by month?

Typical daily prices in euros for seven-day rentals starting on the 15th of each month. Prices depend on the cars and handover on offer.

Bangkok prices, November 2026 to October 2027. N/A means no price was found that month, not a free rental.

From April only about a third as many cars have prices, so the typical figure jumps. Compare the same pickup place and times across dates; handover charges are already included.

Fit the car to the people travelling

Bangkok has automatic cars and cars with seven or more seats. Check seats, equipment and driver rules on the car before choosing airport or address pickup.

Passenger seats

Match the seats to your group and check the features you need. A similar car may have a different layout, so confirm before booking.

Luggage space

Tell the company how many people and bags you have. Full seats leave less boot space, so check everything fits for the airport run.

Additional drivers

Add everyone who will drive as an extra driver. Check their documents and eligibility first; riding along as a passenger does not count.

Child equipment

Add the child seats, baby seats or boosters you need from the car’s extras. Confirm with the company and check them before you drive off.

Insurance choices for Bangkok car hire

Check the cover levels offered on your Bangkok car, with what each covers, your damage liability and the deposit, before adding more cover.

Minimum coverageIncluded as standard
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Damage to your hire car (not included)
Basic coverage
  • Limited collision cover (CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
  • Glass and tyre damage (not included)
Full Coverage
  • Limited driver liability (Super CDW) (included)
  • Damage to other vehicles (TPL) (included)
Full Coverage Plus
  • Full damage cover (included)
  • No driver liability for accident damage (included)

Check what remains excluded. Standard cover leaves out the windscreen, wheels, underside and interior. Basic CDW also excludes tyres and glass, even with a lower excess.

Respond immediately to an incident. Tell the company at once and get a police report, unless it agrees otherwise. If you skip this, cover is void and you pay for all damage.

Keep permission and protection distinct. Higher cover never allows crossing a border or driving on banned roads. Deliberate damage, vandalism or neglect voids your cover.

Check availability on the car. Some Bangkok cars offer Full Coverage Plus. Check your car’s cover and exclusions; not every car offers all four levels.

The excess is what you pay towards covered damage; the deposit secures the rental. Check both again when you change cover. The insurance explanation helps you compare, but your car’s own conditions apply.

Bring both driving documents to collection

Bring two originals: your national licence and an International Driving Permit, both valid until you return the car. Copies and digital versions are not accepted.

Licence and IDP

Bring both original documents to pickup; your national licence alone is not enough. Every driver must meet the car’s document and eligibility rules.

Eligibility and card

Check the car’s minimum age and years licensed, as similar cars differ. Bring the voucher and any required card in the main driver’s name.

Check you meet the age and licence rules for a Thai rental before paying so pickup is not refused.

Fuel, timing and condition at handback

Even short use costs a full 24-hour day, and going into the next 24 hours adds another day. Enter your real pickup and return times.

Fuel and cleanliness

  • Return the car with the same fuel as at pickup. Missing fuel is charged at the company’s rate, and extra is not refunded. If dirt hides damage at inspection, you may pay for washing.

Contact and changes

  • Keep your booking phone working from the day before pickup to the end of the hire. Tell the company about any change, and agree extensions or a new return place first.

Follow the company’s return steps. Leaving the car in an airport car park does not end the rental.

No driving to Cambodia or Malaysia

The car must stay in Thailand.

That holds whatever cover you buy, and on a one-way rental too.

Check the deadline before changing a reservation

Check the notice your car needs and whether you added the optional cancellation feature. Refunds still lose a processing fee.

Advance notice

Cancel seven days ahead for a regular car, or thirty for a luxury car or convertible; the optional feature cuts this to one day. Cancelling late or missing pickup loses the advance.

Refund request

Email your voucher to cancel. Refunds are paid within fourteen days, minus 6% of the advance for processing. To change plans, cancel and make a new booking.

Questions about renting from Bangkok

Can I choose an automatic at either airport?

Yes, Bangkok has automatic cars. Set the gearbox filter, then check the gearbox on your car and its airport pickup.

Is a Bangkok deposit the same as the insurance excess?

No. The deposit secures the rental; the excess is what you pay towards damage. Compare both on your car after any cover change, and check how each is paid.

Does the Pattaya distance confirm permission to drive there?

No. Tell the company about trips outside the province when booking and get its agreement. The distance only helps you plan; it is not permission, a fee or a return option.

Does the Don Mueang route card mean I can return the car there?

Only if Don Mueang is the return place on your booking. Some Suvarnabhumi cars can end there; otherwise do not leave the car there. Some delivered Pattaya cars can be returned at either Bangkok airport.

Can I bring my pet in the rental car?

Small pets are allowed in a carrier only. Cleaning charges and damage rules still apply on a trip with a pet.
