Compare Madeira choicesThe class prices are the cheapest daily rates for a week with airport pickup. Many island offers sit nearer €47 a day.
Madeira has cars with either gearbox. Check seats, luggage and the car’s details; a car marked “or similar” may be swapped for a similar model.
These class prices are for airport pickup and return. Funchal delivery and other pickup points are priced separately.
Pick the handover that suits the start of your stay. Each car shows its options, and your confirmation has the company’s instructions.
Pick up at Madeira Airport. Follow the meeting point on your voucher and keep the company’s phone number to hand.
Enter your Funchal address when booking. Check the delivery charge and meeting point for your car.
Calheta, Caniço and Câmara de Lobos have delivery too. Agree the exact address with the company.
Santa Cruz and Machico also show Madeira Airport cars. These come from the same island pool, not extra fleets.
The company charges a regional fee of €2 per full 24-hour day, up to ten days: €20 at most. Zero-emission cars pay half.
The fee goes on the rental company’s invoice and is not a road toll. The online price is not everything you pay, so read your voucher. Even Madeira car hire with no deposit adds this fee.
Some cars have no deposit; others hold one. Pay 15 to 20% online to book, then pay the rest to the company using the methods listed for your car.
If a credit card is needed, the main driver brings their own physical card with embossed details. A debit card also needs embossed details and must be allowed in your booking.
Drive times from Madeira Airport on clear roads. Add time for stops, traffic and parking; mountain roads are slower than the expressway.

The drive to Funchal follows the VR1 for much of the way. Closer to the airport, Santa Cruz is 2.9 km (about five minutes), Machico 4.9 km (about ten) and Caniço 11.1 km (around fifteen).
Heading southwest, Ribeira Brava is 37 km from the airport, about forty minutes, and Calheta 49.9 km, about fifty minutes. Allow extra for the last stretch to your accommodation.
Madeira’s main roads and expressways have no tolls. The regional rental fee is separate and is not a road charge.
Parking costs are yours to pay. Before booking delivery, ask your accommodation about access and any private parking.
Drive on the right and stay on paved public roads. Reaching a mountain viewpoint does not mean every track beyond it is allowed.
Mountain roads are winding and need extra care. Pick a route you are happy driving and follow the current signs.
Everyone wears a belt or the right child seat. Children under 12 and below 135 cm need an approved child seat, with some exceptions.
At pickup, find the reflective vest and warning triangle. Set your navigation before driving off, and only use your phone hands-free.
Give a phone number with the country code that works from the day before pickup until return. Call 112 in emergencies; tell the company about incidents or changed times.
Airport pickup and town delivery do not mean any pair works as a one-way hire. Get a quote for your actual places first.
Enter pickup and return; conditions can differ between places.
Include delivery and collection charges in the total price.
Return the car where and when agreed, following the parking instructions.
Each month is a seven-day Madeira Airport search. Months with no prices show N/A, and the regional fee is not in these figures.
Madeira Airport · regional fee excluded
Even a short hire costs at least one full 24-hour day, and going past a full day can add another. The regional fee counts full 24-hour days only, up to ten days.
Choose manual or automatic when booking. Before setting off, give every driver time to learn the car’s controls.
Add the right child seat from the car’s extras, from baby seats to boosters. Check you have it before leaving the airport.
The company must add the second driver to the agreement. Check their age and licence experience first.
Small pets travel in a carrier on every drive. Make sure there is room for it with your passengers and luggage.
A no-deposit car still comes with the contract and incident rules. Check the cover and excess on the car you choose.
Not in standard cover: Damage to wheels, underbody, cabin and windscreen. Check what an upgrade actually adds.
After an incident: Call the company straight away and get a police report, unless the company agrees otherwise. Skipping these steps voids your cover.
What voids cover: Deliberate vandalism or neglect. No cover level allows a banned ferry trip or driving on an unpaved track.
Deposit release: Some companies hold the deposit for 21 to 30 days after return. Check the refund terms for your car.
Bring your original national licence in Latin script, valid until your last rental day. Digital licences and photocopies are not accepted.
If your licence is valid only at home, an IDP is strongly advised. Bring your original licence too; the permit cannot replace it.
Each car sets a minimum age and licence experience. Check both before booking; offers for the same model can differ, and you can be refused.
You cannot take the car on a ferry between the mainland and the islands, in either direction. For a mainland trip, book another car.
That ferry rule does not name Porto Santo, but do not assume it is allowed. Ask the company about any island-to-island sailing before booking; a cross-border extra alone does not allow it.
Cancel at least 7 days before pickup, or 30 days for luxury and convertible cars. With the cancellation option, 24 hours’ notice is enough.
Email support to cancel, with your voucher attached. Refundable advances are repaid within 14 days, minus a 6% payment service deduction.
A no-show without notice or a late cancellation loses the advance. To change the booking, cancel and book again; the original cancellation terms still apply.
No. The company bills it at €2 per full day for up to ten days, and half that for zero-emission cars.
Not always. Check your cover and its accident excess separately from the deposit.
No, the main roads and expressways are free to use. Parking and the regional rental fee are separate costs.
No. Search with the exact town and times, then check the handover charge shown for the car.
Ask before your rental ends. An extension must be agreed and can change both the hire cost and the regional fee.
Enter your Madeira Airport pickup and return times, choose your car and budget for the regional fee.
